Rhein Main Air Base - (435th OMS) ENROUTE MX SECTION
Years Assigned to RMAB 1960 - 2005
362 MXS

Commanded by MAJ Lou Brienza
Lou Brienza
The base went to USAFE (C-130s) and so the new Command AMC (formerly MAC) needed to create a new tenant Airlift Group, which became the 362nd ALG and that's how the Enroute became it's own separate squadron along with the C9 maintainers and FSS Supply personal. The C9s would leave for Ramstein the following year in 93 and the year after that the C-130s also went over to Ramstein. In July 1994 the 362nd MXS was inactivated downsized and became a Flight under the 362nd ALG and eventually the 362nd ALG was downsized inactivated and became the 726 MASS How the base evolved after that till it closed 10 years later. I really don't know those details.

September 30 - Base Closure Party was held in the Consolidated Club. (1400-1600)
SEPTEMBER 30, 2005 ** Very sad. I had been in Europe for 2 weeks and arrived back on Rhein Main. I was driving around the base. I passed the Consolidated Club and everyone was just coming out.
I missed the party by 2 hours. I literally cried. I was on base and missed the closure party.
DECEMBER 31, 2005, Rhein Main was officially turned over to the German Government.
For the one that might not know it. Rhein Main Air Base was leveled to make room for the Cargo Sud Processing Center. ALL CARGO PLANES are loaded/unloaded now.
A big THANK YOU goes to MAJ Lous Brienza for the correct data.
No the base didn't close in 92, the change was that the base went to USAFE (C-130s) and so the new Command AMC (formerly MAC) needed to create a new tenant Airlift Group, which became the 362nd ALG and that's how the Enroute became it's own separate squadron along with the C9 maintainers and FSS Supply personal. The C9s would leave for Ramstein the following year in 93 and the year after that the C-130s also went over to Ramstein. I really don't know those details.
Lou Lou Brienza Commander of the 362 MXS
(after 435th OMS Enroute)
Just came across this photo from May 1992. 26 years ago. It was the last large 435th TAW formation with a "pass and review" made up of all 435th Wing Squadrons, tenant squadrons like mine the 362nd Maintenance Squadron (AMC en route), and the other 362nd Airlift Group Squadrons along with the US Army's 21st Replacement Battalion. Photo is of myself chatting briefly with 435th Wing CC Brigadier General Donald Loranger (his back to the camera) with the 435th Wing Vice CC Colonel Philips (closest facing the camera. I don't remember the name of the Wing Executive Officer in the picture (standing to the left of the Wing CC).
