St Mary High School
Class Of 1958

Welcome to the St. Mary High

Class Of 1958 web site.

I hope you'll enjoy this site my wife Helen and I have set up. This is our gift to you.

It's modeled after the site Helen helped to construct for her high school class, using the popular classcreator.com model. The site  became so popular that it has now been opened to other classes.

This site will help us preserve our singular identity as graduates of the venerable Akron St. Mary High School.

I hope this will serve as a good way for us all to keep in touch until our 55th reunion and beyond.

Please visit often and watch us grow. We welcome any comments, suggestions and contributions.

Pass the word to all our classmates so they may join us here as well.

A special thanks to everyone who provided me with photos of our 50th reunion.  You'll eventually see many of them on this web site.

My very special thanks to Loretta Mollica Carlisle and Kathy Payne Atwell for sharing photos and memorabilia from their personal collections.

Just for fun, check out the "Videos" section. You  may have seen and heard these swinging sisters or fun nuns rock "Hail Holy Queen" before but it's always worth the grins.

NEED A VOLUNTEER PHOTO EDITOR

IS THERE ANYONE WITH A '58 YEARBOOK WHO IS WILLING TO SCAN OUR SENIOR GRADUATION PICTURES AND POST THEM TO THIS SITE? I SCANNED THEM IN LATE 2008 BUT DIDN'T SAVE THEM TO A DISC. AND YOU KNOW WHAT HAPPENED, DON'T YOU? MY LAPTOP CRASHED AND BURNED.

I HAD BORROWED KATHIE PAYNE ATWELL'S YEARBOOKS FOR TOO LONG A TIME AND FINALLY RETURNED THEM. I KNOW SHE'D LEND ONE TO ME AGAIN BUT I JUST DON'T HAVE THE TIME TO DO THE JOB.

THE IDEA IS TO POST OUR GRADUATION  PHOTOS ON OUR PROFILE PAGES AND THEN ASK EVERYONE TO SUBMIT AN ACCOMPANYING CONTEMPORARY PHOTO TO THEIR OWN PROFILE PAGE.

IF YOU'RE INTERESTED, PLEASE CALL ME AT 775-910-9480 OR EMAIL ME AT dankeenan41@yahoo.com

Considering the plight this recession has placed our nation and the world in, an overwhelming lack of confidence in U.S. government and an underwhelming feeling of hopelessness and helplessness in the apparent lack of direction, a grassroots groundswell calling for a renewal in core values is manifesting itself in our nation.

Many of you have seen  this inspiring music video, some have not. It's a poly-partisan call for common sense and unity. And it's an enjoyable and powerful work of art as well. Watch it for the first time or watch it again. Share it with friends and family.

CHECK OUT THE "VIDEOS" SECTION FOR THAT CLASSIC SWINGING VERSION OF "HAIL HOLY QUEEN" FROM THE WHOOPI GOLDBERG MOVIE "SISTER ACT."

Class,

Be sure to take part in the Class Survey which is found on the home page at the top left.  Just click on Class Survey and then choose yes or no and submit your answer.

If you miss the traditional English and Latin hymns we learned and sang  in the 40s and 50s, this former boy soprano* has found a site for you. At www.fisheaters.com/hymns  you'll find MIDI versions of the melodies with displays of the English and/or Latin lyrics. So brush up on Tantum Ergo, Holy God, We Praise Thy Name and, yes, Salve Regina and more. If you find you have a more in depth interest, just google "Roman Catholic Hymns" and you'll be in hymn heaven with links to sites featuring books or downloadable MP3 music. There's some good stuff on YouTube as well. Dan K.

*My voice didn't change until sometime near the beginning of my junior year. Until then, I could actually hit notes higher than could most girls.. A few centuries ago, guys like me were ideal candidates for castrata status. Ouch!

For a quick memory jog of what records we were listening to on WAKR or other stations, go to www.tunecharts.com/?1950s-music.  It's just a year by year listing of the Top 40 or so, no audio.  Dan
