Sandra Kay (Smart) Cordes, 66, of Alpena, MI passed away Saturday, November 12, 2016 at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit as a result of complications from a brain aneurysm. She will be dearly missed by her loving and loyal husband of 45 years, Nelson Cordes whom she married on July 17, 1971 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. 

Sandy and Nelson's lifelong bond began March 5, 1950 at Alpena General Hospital where they were born just 20 minutes apart.  Sandy was born to Wallace and Marjorie (Ellsworth) Smart and was a lifelong resident of Alpena.  Also surviving are her three children; Gregory (Amy) Cordes of Lawton, MI, Timothy (Amanda) Cordes of Alpena, and Kristine (finance' Mason Bowman) of Chicago, IL and 5 grandchildren, 2 sisters and a sister-in-law. 

Sandy was formally employed by General Telephone Company for 14 years and then Alpena Regional Medical Center as a nurse for 19 years before retiring in 2013. 

Her funeral will be on Friday, Nov. 18, 2016 from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. James Erickson officiation.  Interment will be at Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery.  Online condolences may be registered at www.mcwilliamsfh.com.
