Edward J. Eaton

Edward J. Eaton, 66, Altoona, passed away unexpectedly Saturday at UPMC Altoona.

He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., son of the late Edwin and Anne (Gabriel) Eaton. On July 8, 1989, he married Cynthia A. Rubino at the Edith Davis Chapel.

Surviving are his loving wife, Cindy; three daughters: Althea (David) Kent, Jamie (Michael) Dean and Alyssa (Martin) Banks, all of Altoona; four grandchildren: Hannah, Julie and David Kent and Evelynn Banks; two sisters: Linda Churchill of Altoona and Donna Amick of Duncansville; aunts and uncles: Catherine and Valentine Gabriel, Patricia and Nick Pileggi and Rose Rubino; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; two stepsisters-in-law: Tracy Eckenrode and Lisa Shepps; and three stepbrothers-in-law: Fred Kirk Jr., David Kirk and Darrin Kirk.

He was preceded in death by an aunt and uncle, Arline and Frank Gabriel; his mother-in-law, Janet Kirk, and her husband, Fred; and an uncle, Alfred Rubino.

He was a 1971 graduate of Altoona Area High School and a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church. He served in the U.S. Army as a specialist four during the Vietnam War. He was employed as a salesman for Small Tube Products in Duncansville. He formerly worked for Conrail and was a former owner of the Brass Rail in Duncansville. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 551, where he was a 3rd Degree council treasurer, and he recently received his 4th Degree of the Bishop Garvey Assembly. He was also a member of the Catholic War Veterans, A&J Iaia Post 827, Duncansville V.F.W., Bavarian Aid Society, Buccinese Society, Concordia Club, Newburg Fire Hall, Swiss Rifle Club, Unter Uns Club, St. Stanislaus Club and the Central PA Landlord Association.

Ed enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed sports, traveling, coin collecting and watching movies. He was always there to lend a helping hand or to provide a shoulder to lean on. He provided many laughs to all who knew him throughout the years.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2018, at Santella Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2018 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Committal will be at Calvary Mausoleum with full military honors.
