Marvin "Woody" Woodward

April 3, 1946 - May 29, 2016

Marvin "Woody" Woodward passed away on Sunday, May 29, succumbing to a four month battle with lung cancer. He was born on April 3, 1946 in Portsmouth Ohio to Denver and Carolyn Woodward. The family moved to Idaho in 1961 settling in American Falls. Woody graduated from American Falls High School in 1964. He married Lynn Ringe in 1965 and their son Patrick was born in 1966. He joined the United States Navy in 1967 and served during the Vietnam War.
Woody held a variety of positions in the bar and restaurant industry during the 80s and 90s, starting with a position as manager of Garfield's on the corner of Main and Gould, followed by similar positions at Jake's restaurants in Pocatello, Boise, and Great Falls. He was the owner and operator of Locomotions bar and Cassidy's restaurant, both located on the first floor of the Hotel Yellowstone in old town Pocatello. After Locomotions closed he opened the Blue Moose. He worked for 13 years as a senior field engineer for US Cellular and Alltel before retiring in 2008.
In 2002 he had a serious heart attack that changed his outlook on life. He developed a greater appreciation for the outdoors and the wonders of nature. Combining his love for the outdoors and his lifelong passion for creativity he took up outdoor photography. He won several awards for his art and his works were displayed on two occasions in the Transition Gallery at Idaho State University. Woody avidly pursued many hobbies. He loved dogs, camping, and trips to the archery range. In his retirement he developed a passion for guitars, and spent much of his free time collecting, restoring, and playing them.
He is survived by his son Patrick (Laurinda), three grandchildren (Denver, Luke and Iris), and his brother Dennis (Becky).
The family will receive friends at Downard Funeral Home, 241 North Garfield Ave., Pocatello, Idaho on Friday, June 17th at 1:00 P.M. until graveside services at 2:30 at the Restlawn Cemetery.
