Max Muir - Class Of 1963

Max Gene Muir, 52, died Tuesday morning, Sept. 2, 1997. He was born Feb. 28, 1945 in Blackfoot, the son of Stephen Lamoni and Mona Dee (Burton) Muir.  He married Lynda Lewis on Oct. 22, 1965 in Aberdeen. Their marriage was solemnized in the Boise LDS Temple Nov. 29, 1985.

Max grew up in American Falls, attennding school there until the middle of his junior year. The family moved to Rupert and he graduated from Minidoka High School in 1963. He attended ISU and was a licensed airplane mechanic. He later continued his education at ISU and received his bachelor of business administration in 1975. He was a licensed private pilot and loved flying. He was in constant search of knowledge.

His lifetime work was in the potato processing business. He was employed by Lamb Weston in American Falls for several years and in Quincy, WA. He left this line of work for a short time, but returned and was employed by the J.R. Simplot Co. in Aberdeen. He then was recruited by Gourmet Foods in Boardman, OR, which was later sold to Lamb Weston. In 1991 he moved to McCain Foods in Othello, WA as quality control manager.

He was offered a position with Mid-American Potato Comapny in Grand Rapids, MI in 1992 and accepted. Later that company was sold to J.R. Simplot Co. and he was Unit Director at the Grand Rapids plant at the time of his death.

He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many callings. He was Bishop of the Boardman, OR Ward from 1990 to 1993. He loved working in the scouting program and teaching Sunday School classes.

Max was a volunteer fireman and EMT in Aberdeen for six years. He loved spending time in the desert. He enjoyed reading and writing stories. He could always find the good in people.

His family was of the utmost importance. He always wanted to see them reach their potential and taught love and patience. He loved having his family at home with him and loved the grandchildren and treasured the time spent with them.

Max is survived by his wife, Lynda; two sons and two daughters, Leslie (Shannon) of Alderdale, WA; Brandyn (Laura) of Wyoming, MI; Alauna and Vickie of Grandville, MI; and five grandchildren, Kymberly, Amanda, Dallas, Meisha and Alicia. Also surviving are his mother, Mona Worth; two brothers, Steve and Eldon Muir; and three sisteres, Ada Eldredge, Pat Wahl and Linda Stumbo.

Funeral services were Tuesday, Sept. 9, at 2 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Aberdeen First Ward, with Bishop Ernest W. Landvatteer conducting. Visitation was Monday, Sept. 8, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Davis Mortuary, American Falls, and from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Interment was at the Aberdeen Cemetery.
