WOW,

Talk about an "Adult Moment" or CRS Syndrome!

The "Clark Bar" was a good one, also, who could forget the "Snickers" bars or the "Hershey Bars".

I remember getting caught in study hall munching on a Snicker's Bar Freshman Year by "Miss Locke"/Mrs. Lemiere, the Spanish Teacher. Detention!!!! :(

Yeah I see the Vermont Country Store Booklet in the mail occasionally, the price of yester-year costs a lot for the "retro" stuff these days. WOW Chunkies... now there was a candy bar!!! Vermettes just raised the price of CHUCKLES from 69 cents up to 89 cents. :(

I went through the Lee Traffic Circle in NH a month ago and stopped at Calef's General Store. Whoo Hoo!!

Memories of skiing in New Hampshire during High School and traveling the back roads to avoid highway traffic to stop at Calef's off Route 125 was a real treat!

They had them "Penny Candies" but they are not a penny any more. :( I think the cheapest thing they had was a couple root beer barrels for a dime. The swizzle sticks (5 for $1.00)were plentiful, But did notice the Kosher Dill Pickles in the Barrel and the Vermont style Cheddar Cheese blocks are still a hot item and still fly out the door!!!

Hope this helps in yester-year memories.

Almond Joy bar, M&M's, chocolate covered raisins, yeah!!!!
The reason I go to class reunions usually is to see everyone and to chat it up with people I haven't seen in years. We were stuck with each other for 4 years of high school after all, like it or not, and most of you went to middle school together, (I had the unfortunate luck to go to catholic school). We rode that awful bus ride to Haverhill everyday for 4 years, so we do have history together wether we like it or not.
So, that being said, is the reason I like to go to the class reunions. I guess you could call it "catch up time"...

Barbara Clarke (Ward)

Yes, Chunky's Almond Joy's and M&M's Peanut ones. I do remember going to a little store at the corner of high street and getting candy there after school.

Haven't been to many reunion's only one that I can recall was maybe the 10th or maybe the 15th not sure.

I should be fun catching up with everyone, now that so many years have past.

Ok, I have to admit that I didn't really respond to Bev's request for favorite candy.

But I can definitely respond to everyone's responses. I remember biking with Barb Bailey and going to the dry cleaner near the Mammoth Mart where they had a pickle barrel and we would buy giant dill pickles for a nickle.

I remember getting cokes from the machine in the Y for a nickle, in the bottle.

I remember the Pez containers and the candies within. It was never about the candy. Just the containers.

Always about the packaging,

Sue

From what I can see, Sue, it's still all about the packaging, except now that I'm older it seems everything is bigger and way harder to get into, I need a pair of scissors to get into anything!!!
It's good to see you on the post board!!

Donna Burke :( - Those awful buses got me 1968 Camaro and put me through college. LOL They also prohibited me from ACTING UP. Gawd knows whoever was driving would tell my dad "Joni this or Joni that..."

Frankly, the stress level associated with operating a bus line did my father in before his time. He was 57 when he passed.

Never the less. When I spent my summers at Hampton Beach with my grandparents, my favorite candy was Skybar. Either they make them differently now or my taste buds have changed. Very disappointed the last time I had one. HOWEVER, seeing how any candy I eat now goes directly to my .... well, someplace I'd rather not have it go.. I only eat good candy from the Chocolatier or Carriagetown Chocolates. Everything else is a "waste" of time.

Thanks Barb Bailey. We did have a real;y good time at the 35th Reunion. Best part was seeing Jim Bean enjoy himself surrounded by the classmates who cared about him (God rest his soul). Reunion people!!...there was only four of us on that committee so don't worry about who likes or doesn't like the venue...it's not about going to the Bay Tower Room. It's about getting together with our classmates and spending a few hours catching up. Nobody is forcing them to come. Count me in...I'll be there. Right Paul???

Donna Burke

Hi Joni, Can't wait to get together to see you and everyone else who dares to come! It will be a blast no matter what!!! And If it weren't for those bus rides, what the hell would we have to talk about? or complain about, life is a ride, and the busses were a part of it, ride on , ride on...... see you soon

07/29/09 03:51 PM #21

Barbara Randall (Bailey)

I'll take the bus ride! Can you imagine what the alternative might have been if old Haverhill High had not been available?

Not to be morbid but I posted a comment in memorium for Jim Charles and Jimmy Bean and noticed that there are two classmates who have passed who are not on the page.

Ron Michaud passed away in 2003 and Bob Deboisbriand passed in 2007.

I have tried to post Ron before but for some reason it doesn't stick.

I thought it would be a good idea to bring the page up to date. Any clue what to do?

Susan Kincaid (Chiang)

In response to Joanie's message regarding Ron and Bob, I don't know the answer to how to post memories for them, but am sad to hear about theirs and our other classmates' passing.

I'd like to add that with all of us growing a small bit older I look forward to reconnecting and seeing as many of you as can possibly come to the reunion. As Pattie Mooers Sanborn said, Who doesn't love an Italian buffet? Consider it a fun night out, with good food, and at the least some interesting opportunities for conversation.

I look forward to hearing and sharing the good, the bad and the ugly from our lives. After all, if you can't be honest after 40 years, what else is there?

I responded to Bev's question about candy by e-mail. Skybar, Zero Bar(cold), and Bonamos Turkish Taffy any flavor but, Banana. I'll be at my first re-union October 10. October 4 is my anniversary and my mom's 90th Birthday, October 11th is the wifes Birthday and the 12th I'm meeting an old Air Force buddy for a day in the HUB. Haven't seen him since 1983. He lives near Spokane WA. It's funny but I think my closest friends are the ones I spent countless hours with, working on missiles and aircraft all hours of the day and night, in all types of weather. If most people knew what went on during the Cold War, the hair on their neck would stand up. There are a half dozen AF friends I keep in touch with weekly thanks to the internet. Go Red and White!

A special thank you to the committee for all your hard work in organizing this reunion tonight ( last night now ). I think I can safely say a really nice time was had by all who attended. Recognizing faces got tough at times, but hey, it was our 40TH !!! I'm 30-28 years old now !!! No wonder it's getting tough.
Seriously, it was a good time. Lots of work, I'm sure.So feel appreciated and satisfied that a nice job was done by all.
See most in 5 more years, perhaps a handful way before then. I thank you. Hopefully, I'm FIRST !!!

This was my first re-union. For those of you reading this that didn't attend, for what ever reason, it was GREAT! I'm sorry I didn't attend in the past.Is Kudos still a word? If it is, Thanks go out to the organizers. Realy wanted to see Paul Riley, Richard Pulio, Kevin Raymond, "Butch" Therrian. I did get to see Mike St. Jean and David Tilton etc. etc. etc. You all know who I saw better than I know who I saw.

Hi Everyone,
The reunion was GREAT and lots of fun. My fiance (missing the accent mark) Ginny even had a great time. I told her before we went that I probably will not know many of the people there either but wanted to go anyways. She said you were all a great bunch of people and appreciated being made to feel welcomed. As it turned out I did know most (and I apologize not all) of the people there. I got the first five right anyways. The food and company was great and enjoyed meeting some of the spouses that I did not know - in particular Greg Chorbanian. I want to thank the organizers - Bev, Dale, Patti, Donna (sorry that I did not remember you), and the others who made it a great event. I am still on a high from it and look back fondly on the evening. Brought back lots of memories. In observation I see that lots of us became teachers (but not myself who is a continual student) and that indicates the quality of the teachers that we had in school - to instill in us the continuing need to pass on what we were taught and to continue a legacy. That was the best thing of all!!
Richard Ouellette and Ginny
PS - Ginny got a kick out of all the people that called me Dicky - I got rid of that name way back in college!!!

The older I get, the longer it takes for the light to go on!! I kept looking at Michael St. Jean at the reunion and said (to myself - do that a lot lately), he looks like someone familiar and it wasn't just an older Mike St. Jean. It finally came to me - 10 days later. Has anyone seen pictures of US Airways Pilot Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger who landed the plan in the Hudson River last January??? That's who Mike looks like. Honest to God, no lie. And when I googled Sullenberger, he's our age!! Born January 23, 1951!!! Mike - do you suppose you have a twin brother out there????? Crazy, huh?

Hello Classmates!

Well, I must say it was a hoot to go to "Good Ole Amesbury High" this morning to  vote in the Presidential Election.

I must say, I got out of the car in the parking lot behind the school, and,  the place has some memories for me, even though we were only there from Feb-Jun   '69,

My mother was with me, and after we got through the front door in the hallway, she was curious why I stopped and looked at pictures they had posted of various recipients of various awards.  I had to tell her that there was a 43 year history since I left.  I wanted to see who was there and what they did to get their photos put on the wall.

We voted in the Cafeteria.  Wow, that place has many memories of eating lunch there.  Wonder if they really have a better lunch program than the "brown bags" we endured in Haverhill (Can you remember them days?)

I wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving, a Merry Christmas, and a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year.

Hello to all.

For those who attended Amesbury Middle School, Grade 6 (Wow, remember the old Junior High?)  I wanted to take an opportunity to share some good news.

Our Math Teacher, Gladys Turnquist, turns 100 years old on Tuesday, May 6, 2014.

There was a big write up in the Newburyport News wrote a very nice article.

If you would like to send her a card, she lives in the Heritage Towers, 180 Main Street, Amesbury, MA 01913

Telephione  (978) 388-2367.

I sent her a card.   Please if you have time, send her one.

As we work on planning our 50th reunion, I am just reaing all the responses about the last one and the responses that have come in over the years.  Each message brings a smile to my face, as I rememebr the person who wrote it.  Thank you all for caring enough to contribute to these pages. Please watch for planning dates for our upcoming reunion.  We would love to have input and/or to have you join us at the meetings!

Received my post card reminder to update my Profile.   LOL, I had to change my password as I could not remember what I put back in the day.  (CRS Syndrome)

I viewed a few profiles of people I almost forgort graduated with us, seems they moved out of town upward and onward.

Will try to make the 50th Reunion, I have been missing for quite a few celebrations due to military or other activities.   Hope to see you there.

My rings. I'll never forget the day we got our rings as juniors. The silver ring is the one I made out of a Kennedy half dollar when that brief fad passed through. I treasure it to this day.

I hope everyone has a  great time at our 50th. I planned to make it, but other trips became urgent and I have to beg off and not take another trip home. Three flights in one year is all I can manage. Hopefully next time. Glad I was able  to offer suggestions  over the last year for this reunion. Enjoy and be well, all.
