Obituary for Timothy Stevenson

Timothy James Stevenson, age 61, passed away Monday, March 18, 2013 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, after a spirited, much longer than predicted fight with cancer. He is survived by his children Aimee Stevenson, Adam (Anne) Stevenson, and Kelly (Dave) Battjes, all of Grand Rapids; his grandchildren Penelope Joy, Coos Stevenson and Imojean Annabel; his brother Bill (Ann) Stevenson of Horseshoe Bay, TX; his loyal friend and co-parent/co-grandparent Tish Stevenson; several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends all over the country. Tim was preceded in death by his father, Robert "Steve" Stevenson, his beloved mother, Oma Nell (Smith) Stevenson, and his best buddy/brother Tom Stevenson.

Tim was proud to have been born in the Territory of Alaska, "before it was even a state!" He was a 1969 Graduate of West Anchorage High School, who loved shooting hoops with his buddies. Tim will be remembered for his cheesy jokes, goofy laughs, tender heart, great stories, and openness to love. He was a joker, a cribbage enthusiast, a guy who LOVED golf and college basketball wagers with his "brews" Tom and Adam. When his kids were small, he was never seen at a birthday party without a video camera. He fancied himself a pool shark and world dominator at the game of RISK. He told the best bedtime stories. He loved Loony Toons and Seinfeld. His favorite treats were vanilla ice cream and Dr Pepper (sometimes but definitely not necessarily together). The crowning achievement of his life is the legacy he leaves behind in his children and grandchildren – and he knew it. His love and pride for his family was known to everyone he ever met.
