Tim Tagler VIEW PROFILE

Timothy Henry Tagler was born October 26, 1944 in Sacramento, CA. Tim’s parents were Henry Tagler and Gladys Schwertzler Tagler, who cared for more than two dozen foster children awaiting adoption, while raising their own three children, Carl, Holly and Tim. Tim was a popular student in the Class of 1962 at Menlo-Atherton High School in Menlo Park, California.

Tim loved working on cars and was a mechanic and driver at the Fremont Dragstrip in Fremont, California. In the 8th-grade at Hoover School, he wrote in the school paper that he wanted to customize cars for a living. Tim died March 1, 1964 in an automobile accident coming home from the Fremont Dragstrip at age 19. He is interred at Holy Cross Cemetery in Menlo Park, alongside his parents.

"I can tell you that he was a very caring, sensitive, thoughtful person. He was extremely artistic, had a great sense of humor, and loved taking cars apart and putting them back together." Sharon Moore Whiting

After her children were grown, Gladys Tagler worked for 15 years in the house wares department at Macy's in the Stanford Shopping Center. She was a volunteer at Lucile Packard Children's Hospital and a member of the Roth Auxiliary. She also volunteered at Treasured, a thrift store in Palo Alto, the Peninsula Stroke Association, and at the Filoli estate in Woodside where she was a docent. She knitted 35 sweaters a year for disadvantaged babies helped by Young Ladies Institute #209. Mrs. Tagler died at age 87 on February 16, 2004 at her Menlo Park home, 911 Peggy Lane.

Henry Tagler, who resided in Menlo Park for 50 years, died May 10, 2000 at the age of 90. He was a professional gardener in the local area for 40 years, and a member of the Palo Alto Gardeners Association, the Woodside Gardeners Association and the San Francisco Gardeners Association.

Mr. Tagler is survived by his wife of 63 years, Gladys; his son, Carl of Avery; his daughter, Holly Pederson of Wilsonville, Oregon; his brother, Hubert of Redwood City; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Timothy. Visit a memorial for Tim on
