In Memory

Randy Demeter

Randy Demeter

From Vicki Pardini Demeter:

Just wanted our classmates to know that my beloved husband, Randy Demeter passed away from cancer on 12/26/2020. He went thru so much pain, surgeries & health struggles and never complained. He's in a better place now, especially in my heart.

Obituary

Born in Menlo Park, Randy was a true friend and beloved by all who met him. He was a lover of the ocean, the redwoods, and all species of plants; as a lifetime gardener he was a perfectionist of his craft. From bonsai to floral arrangements, apricot orchards to lush gardens and vineyards, Randy poured his heart into his work. His greatest gifts were in his heart and hands.

Randy didn’t command attention, but he drew it, with his infectious laughter, quick wit, and gentle eyes. He was cool but never tried to be, nor did he ever complain; he faced hardships with humility and grace.

He was built to fly at a young age, high jumping 6 feet at Menlo Atherton High and setting records for his slam dunks at Menlo College. He leaves behind his wife Vicki and their dog Pebbles, and his son Justin, who were there beside him for his ultimate flight.

"In the end, only three things matter:
how much you loved,
how gently you lived,
and how gracefully you let go
of things not meant for you."

Dear Vicki,

I am sorry for your loss and to hear this news.  Randy was and is such a great guy.   I know he is in a better place and is out of the pain caused by his cancer.

Randy and I go back to Little League baseball when we were 10 years old.  It was so fun playing on the same team.  He had such a goofy sense of humor and was a good baseball player.

As we got a little older, we competed against each other in basketball.  He played at Nativity and I at Encinal. Basketball as you know was his true talent.  Later I was lucky enough to play with Randy at M-A.  Those were good years.  Randy still had that goofy sense of humor.

Even though I haven't seen Randy in a number of years, I still have fond memories of him.  I can still visualize him driving the baseline when he played basketball.  That was his signature move.  I can visualize him headed over the high jump bar in track.
I will miss Randy as we all will.  He was and is a great guy.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Thank you all for your kind words and prayers - it means so much to me to hear from you. I have been blessed with my dear friends, family and classmates that have shown so much love for Randy.  It was the hardest thing in my life to watch him slip away, but he was at home and peacefully took flight.

Dear Vicki,  I’m so saddened to hear of Randy’s passing.  I have such fond memories of Randy both on and off of the basketball court.  He always seemed so comfortable in his own skin, always welcoming those around him and never pretentious.  I’m so glad that Randy and I were able to sit down and chat together at the last reunion.  I’ve always enjoyed his company and admired the relationship you and he have had.  He was truly a good guy and will be sincerely missed.

I wish you and your family well in this difficult time.

Jack Daly
