KILLEEN, Texas - Sergeant First Class (Ret.) Viola Tillman Matthews, 53, of Killeen, Texas, died Oct. 20, 2010, in Temple Hospital, Temple, Texas. Spec. Matthews was born on April 20, 1957, in Auburn, daughter of the late Johnnie Lee and Mary Maude Tillman. She enlisted in the United States Army in 1980 and served her country for 20 years retiring in 2000. She loved spending time with her nieces, nephews, and loved music and bingo. Surviving her is one son, Benjamin N. Redic, III and his wife, Jennifer, of Killeen, Texas; one sister, Katie M. McIntyre and her husband, Bruce; and five brothers, Floyd, Larry, Michael, and Patrick Tillman, all of Auburn; and Marvin Tillman and his wife, Teresa, of Durham, N.C.; one sister-in-law, Ruth Tillman; two brothers-in-law, John Whitaker and Roy Wilson Jr.; several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. In addition to her parents, Viola was predeceased by her late husband, Benjamin N. 'Chico' Redic; a brother, Johnnie Lee 'Peter' Tillman; and two sisters, Betty Jean Whitaker and Mary Ann Wilson. Friends are invited to call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29, at the Brew Funeral Home, 48 South St., Auburn. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 30, in the Roosevelt Memorial Baptist Church, Fitch Ave., Auburn Interment with military honors will be held in Fort Hill Cemetery.
