Thomas Galbally

AUBURN — Thomas E. Galbally, 77, of Auburn, passed away peacefully Thursday, April 18, 2019, in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family.

He was a life resident of Auburn, the son of the late James and Catherine Heffner Galbally. Tom was a highly-decorated Navy and Marine veteran having served our country honorably during the Vietnam War. He was injured while in combat after having saved several lives. Some of his awards included the prestigious Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Medal of Honor. These are three of the highest citations that are seldom given out to our armed service personnel. Tom graduated from East High School, class of 1959; received his bachelor’s from Delta State College and a master’s degree from Cortland State College. Prior to his retirement, Tom had been employed for more than 30 years by the Auburn Enlarged City School District as a biology teacher at Auburn High School.

He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Carol (Fedigan) Galbally; two sons, Michael Galbally and Christopher Galbally, all of Auburn; granddaughter, Brianna; sister, Pat (Bob) Galbally; brother, Walter Galbally; nephews, Patrick, Dillon, and Jamie Galbally; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins on the Fedigan side of the family.

In addition to his parents, Tom was predeceased by two brothers, David “Red” and Eddie Galbally.

Friends and relatives are invited to join the family at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, April 27, 2019, in Sacred Heart Church with the Rev. James Enright as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded. Calling hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 26, at the Pettigrass Funeral Home, 196 Genesee St., Auburn.
