David Wentz

Hello everyone.

I am looking for ideas for Friday. Time could be from afternoon to late night. Food and drinks, this is where the ideas are needed.

How to contact david.

Phone: 316-742-3529 (answering machine always on)

e-mail: dcwpick@yahoo.com

david’s house:

the address is: 403 s.w. 100th terrace, augusta, ks 67010-0593

the house is red.

where it is located. From augusta go east on 400 (four lane road) till you get to where 54 and 77 turn and go towards el dorado. (about seven miles east of augusta) go towards el dorado until you come to the first left (about a quarter of a mile) turn west on road 100 (old hiway 54) going back towards augusta. Go .4 miles to a street named parkside. Turn south to david’s drive.

Some of you will know the location as the old state weigh station at pickrell corner. The house is just south of the weigh station (some call it a park)

You can park in the old weigh station because I also own it. some of you may have parked there in the past or still park there, there is a lot of night time activity out there.

David, I was trying to think of things since you ask for some suggestions. This is what I have came up with:
horseshoes, croquet, volleyball, texas holdem' tables, karaoke (if someone had a machine for that). That's about all I could think of, and not sure anyone would be interested in these, but I thought maybe they would. Just visiting around with each other, that will probably be what mostly everyone will do anyway. I'm sure what ever you and Bethel have planned will be just fine. I'm getting excited for the reunion, I always enjoy seeing all the other classmates. Such a good time, and brings back alot of memories. I'll see you both in September if we don't see you before. Later, Shirley Segerhammar

David and Bethel, Well, I'm a dummy, I just read your note again, and I am thinking now you were wanting suggestions for the food and drinks. Sorry, I was thinking of things to do, beside just visiting (which is mostly what we will all be doing I bet), anyway, as far as food, I know on Saturday we are having Mexican food, but not really sure of the menu, but Playa Azul is catering it. Should be good!! Anyway, what about a bond fire and roast hotdogs? And as far as other things, we all can bring a covered dish, or atleast the ones from right here in Augusta/Wichita. I think that is what the class of 67 did for their Friday night. They had theirs at Pricilla and Steve Stanley's and it went real well. Give that some thought and call me or Connie if we need to get the word out on anything. Just let us know.
Thanks!! Shirley Segerhammar

Hi Everyone! I just wanted to let you all know how excited I am to be coming to this reunion... our 40th? I can't wait to see everyone. Thanks to David and his wife for hosting Friday... it will give us all a chance to get reacquainted and to recognize each other after all these years. I know I missed the last reunion so it has been a long time for me. Is it okay for me to bring my cameras? I would love to take alot of pictures. Anyway... see you in September... and yes... that was a song... performed by The Happenings in 1969!

It will be a fun filled night and a lot of catching up on the last 10 years. Like David said, all that is required for Friday night is a Good Attitude!!!! Please everyone be sure and thank David and Bethel for hosting the Friday night event.

She can sing too!!!

We really don’t have anything planned for Saturday morning or afternoon, but we encourage each of you to spend time with ole friends. There is golf at the Augusta Golf Course (775-7281), and tee times are as early as daybreak. The Holiday Bowling Alley is open on Saturday’s at 1:00 PM. And of course there is the Augusta Museum, they open at 1:00 PM also.
Have a good day in whatever you plan to do, but be sure and rest up too for our great evening at the ‘Rockin School House’.

Please if you have not reserved and/or paid for your reservation, please do so as soon as possible, we need to get the head count to the caterer’s real soon. We’d appreciate your help on this. If paying by check, make checks out to Connie Bourget Class of 68.

Thank you very much, David and Bethel! It's very nice of you to take on the class of 1968! Also, thanks to those of you who are working hard to make this Reunion happen!

I can't wait to catch up with everyone and see if anyone else is experiencing senior moments from time to time. : )

Don and I are staying at Lehr's. Would anybody be interested to meet for breakfast or brunch Saturday morning? If so, please use this format to respond.

See you soon!

Hi guys & gals - looks like we're going to have a great turnout for the reunion! The Lily Lake schoolhouse has never looked better - Owner Jimmy Lytton has been busy making improvements like you wouldn't believe. Downstairs we will have Rockin' Dee set up on the stage playing all of "our" tunes, and the nearby kitchen will be set up buffet-style for a Mexican fiesta. If that's a little too much sound, the upstairs provides a bar and bartenders, an adjoining room with tables and booths for quiet talk and catching up with classmates. I want to thank each and every one of you for making the effort to come to our 40th reunion - how special is it to get to see classmates we haven't seen for so many years - some of them not for 40 years! Of course it's always fun to see other Augustans - sometimes we don't see each other often enough. Thanks again to Bethel and Dave for hosting the Friday evening event - you guys are great!
See you soon!
Connie

There is a map for Lily Lake under the heading "40 Year Reunion" on this page - We will have some orange balloons at River Valley Road...It is 1 mile west of Augusta, and 1 mile north on River Valley Rd. Did everyone check out the video on this site??? Very cool.

I talked to my brother today. The golf course is having a tournament on Sat morning but they do not expect a large draw. I will be there at 10 AM and if we cannot get on there there are other options. Legion course in ElDorado, for those that care I can get us on to McConnell AFB. It is a tough 18 hole layout that is not expensive.

Let me know if anyone else has any ideas.

Getting really close for our reunion and Connie and I are so excited!!! And David and Bethel I'm sure have been working their tails off for our Friday night BBQ. That is so terribly sweet of both of you to have all of us at your home. There has been a change in the drink menu for Saturday night from what I posted earlier. We are having Bud Light, Coors Light, Blush Wine, Bourbon for a mix drink and then some Margaritas. That is the new list, hope that works for everyone. Get your partying/visiting hats on and come have some fun for the weekend!!! See you all soon, can't wait!!

I must say that this was just awesome. It was great swapping the old stories and getting the newest on the new stories.

I am putting out a standing invitation to any and all of you to come and see Tammy, Thomas, Colby and me at 1320 High Baldwine Hity, KS. You can always reach me on the cell 316-648-0529. This is wichita number cause I have too meny friends that are cheap so I kept the Wichita number. We have a great little town hear and the really neat thing is that we have the oldest 4 year university in the state of Kansas about 6 block from the house. WE have the annual Maple Leaf festival coming up the third weekend in Oct. I have not been to one but from what I have been told every artsy craft person in the world shows up.

I want to thank Shirley and that ever so cute Connie for all the efforts at making this weekend so great. I know that left to most of us we would have had hot dogs and chips with hot soda pop. They should really get special notice. Also I have a little party to put together would you gals like to so it for me, LOL, just kiding. Like sone one else said it you were part of this crazy class that when we graduated knew that we probably only had two options, College or the Military as the result of a little thing called Viet Nam , and did not make it I hope you will in 5 years.

Also I did not get all of the information on the November deal. Could some one send me the info.

Thanks to all and may the wind always be at your back and the sun in your face and we all be on this side of the grass for the next one.

Thank you Connie and Shirley for your hard work! It takes a lot of work to put on an event like this and you guys did a fabulous job!

I loved seeing everyone and catching up!

Jan Penland (Hare)

I want to also thank Connie and Shirley for a wonderful reunion. I can't image how much work you had to put into making our 40th and event we will always remember. Connie, Andrea and myself went to breakfast Sun morning and we said we couldn't believe how full the dance floor was. I think we all danced Sat night more than we ever did in high school. Thank you so much Shirley and Connie.

David and Bethel, hats off to you both. What a wonderful, wonderful evening. You were a BIG part of the success for Sat, because I think everyone got over the gitters of being afraid of not remembering names or realizing who someone was.

I espically want to thank all of you for singing the Alma Mater with me because it has always had a special place in MY heart, even if some of you said "I don't remember the Alma Mater". I thought we all did a great job.

It was great seeing everyone and I agree that we should have another one in 5 yrs. Who knows where we may be in 10yrs.

Sincerely
Jan

Dear Class of 68,
Tom and I had an AWESOME time, so neat to see you all and remember all the funny times. We missed Friday night because of Marysville football, but, still, a big thank you to David and Bethel for their hospitality. Connie, and Shirley, KUDDOS! You're the best! Let's please do this again. We were a great class with so many talents and treasures that can be shared with others. That is evident! Many people have benefitted from the good in the Good Ol' Class of 68!!!!!!

Fondly,
Tom and Linda Knott

Did we have fun or what????? Thanks to everyone who came and made our 40th reunion so very special. Thanks especially for those traveling so far - like Cliff Beadle from Las Vegas, Bob Brown from New Mexico, Jerry Hubbart from Florida. We had many from all over Kansas, and Oklahoma too. David and Bethel Wentz outdid themselves Friday night...the decorations, food, and drink were soooo good - right down to the orange AHS Class of 1968 coozies! The weather all weekend was absolutely perfect - great for visiting inside or out. Our DJ "Rockin Dee" researched our music to a tee and had us hoppin all night long at the Lily Lake Schoolhouse Saturday night. She was scheduled to pack up at 11:00 p.m. but didn't load up until 1:30 a.m.!!! She told us our class song shoulda been "Born to be Wild" not "Born Free"...hahaha. I think we all agreed to have another reunion in five years - so I hope to see you all in 2013!!!!!!
Connie
p.s. Click on "40 Year Reunion" to see our group photo in front of the schoolhouse. Also there is a place to order the video and pictures. Didn't Earl do a fine job with this site???? We may have to adopt him into our class.

Well it has been a real treat to read all the response back from the reunion crowd. I only wish all of the Class of 68 could have been there, it was so much fun!!! I know I enjoyed myself and it was so good to see everyone, gosh, 40 years and I think we all still looked pretty darn good. It was wonderful to visit with all of you and it was good to see some there that had never been to one of our class reunions before. That was just great!! And from what I can tell, everyone wants to do it again in 5 years. Well, lets bring it on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
There have been several comments on David and Bethel's Friday evening gatering, and by all rights, it was great, great time, great food, great scenery, just GREAT!!! Thanks so much to them for ALL they did. And Connie, your the best, I really enjoyed helping, you are such a fun person.
Dee the DJ was good, real good, she knew how to work the crowd, that's for sure. And our photographer, what can I say, he was great, and is still working on a trailer video that will be on the website soon. I guess all in all everything was Excellant!!! I'm glad you like the alma mater Jan, that was cool, but I was taken back when the DJ had the guys sing to us. That almost brought tears to my eyes. That was so awesome!! And Chuck, you need to record your 'Teddy Bear' (Elvis) song, that was great!!! I had no idea!!!
Well, all of those that didn't make it, start planning now and try and make the next one, you will have a good time, I don't think we've had one yet that anyone was dissappointed, but I do think they just get better, hey, kinda like us, better with age. Ha Ha!!
Keep checking the website and keep in touch. Till we meet again, take care and stay safe!!

IN MEMORY OF JAY LEWIS

Several classmates mentioned to me that they wish they knew more about our classmates that were no longer with us. I wasn't sure if this was the proper place to put this information but I thought it might go unnoticed if it was on the In Memory page. I remember that Jay was a very nice guy. He was nothing but kind to me. I also remember that he was very good looking... right girls? There is one night that stands out in my memory. We were at a High School football game and Jay, Connie Dill and I were talking by the concession stand. It was just fun talk. I'm not sure but I think he was attending a new school and he missed being in Augusta. I decided that I wanted to try to find out more about Jay... not for just me but for all of you. This is what I learned. His name was Jessie Roy Lewis but he was always called Jay. He was a PFC-E2 in the United States Marine Corps. Which means Private First Class Enlisted Rank 2. His tour of duty in Vietnam began on May 20, 1969. He died on July 16, 1969. Just 57 days. He died at Quang Ngai, South Vietnam as a Hostile ground casualty. In Jay's case that meant that he died of multiple fragmentation wounds. Thank heavens for his family that his body was recovered. His name is on the Vietnam Memorial Wall on panel 20W-Line 7. He was one of 2,694 marines killed during 1969. The year that Jay died was the next to the highest number of casualties in a single year during the Vietnam conflict. 1968 was the highest. Total casualties for the US military during the Vietnam conflict was 58,178 as of 1997. They continue to find remains to this day. 82 soldiers have been added to the wall since that time. If you look up Quang Ngai, South Vietnam on the internet you will find pages and pages of information.... tours, hotels, travel info, vacation info, attractions to visit, so I guess times have changed alot since then. I am so proud of the soldiers that have protected us and given their lives for us. I hope that in some way that Jay knows that his classmates have not forgotten him. Honestly thinking back to the reunion I think he would have been smiling down on us and thinking... have a blast for me. I would love to know more about our other classmates that have passed on if anyone has any information or memories to share. Didn't we have such a great class? Our 40th class reunion was the most awesome experience for me. Thanks a million times over to those who planned, worked, and attended the reunion. And for those of you that were unable to attend please come to the next reunion. I promise you that you will be glad that you did. And Shirley is right.... Jan's idea of singing the Alma Mater was perfect... just as it should have been. Thanks Jan.

Thanks again to David, Bethel, Connie, & Shirley
for a wonderful reunion. I really enjoyed the Fri night
barbecue, (sorry I missed Sat but had to go out of town).
I have checked out the pics and they were good, will there be any of Friday as well??
In response to Patty about Jay Lewis, I remember him
well, he sat next to me in a class, he was a doll and
such a nice person. I went to his viewing after he was
killed in Nam. He looked very good in his dress Marines.
I also vote for a 5 yr reunion, I will see you all next
time for sure:)
Take care and God Bless, Carla
