Hundreds Attend Johnston High School Vietnam Veterans Memorial Monument Unveiling

On Saturday, May 25th, 2013, over 400 Johnston alumni and community members attended the unveiling of the Johnston High School Vietnam Veterans Memorial Monument.  Although heavy rains the previous day and on the morning of the unveiling may have kept some people away, the Johnston Legacy Hall (cafeteria) had a standing room only audience.  Special thanks go to the sheriff's department for raising the funds to build the monument.  Thanks also to the Johnston alumni volunteers who planned and helped build the monument.

What,?  Allan Jr. High School, Johnston's Feeder School Now Closed?

In its first year, 2012-13, IDEA Allan Middle School 6th grade students outperformed other schools with similar demographics and matched or exceeded overall state averages.  Seventy one percent (71%) of the 6th grade students at IDEA Allan passed the Texas STAAR Reading Test and 82% of the students passed the math test.  A preliminary satewide summary reveals that only 65% of students in Title I schools across Texas passed the reading test and 69% passed the math test.  The Allan scholars were to continue at Johnston, but, the school district closed Allan.  The Allan students followed IDEA Public Schools to a new campus in Montopolis.
Allan is now scheduled to make way for housing for mostly AISD teachers and employees.

RAM JAM!!!

Was held on Sunday, April 28th, 2013 at the Texas Club Bar and Grill. Johnston's own DJ Tommy “The Lion” De Leon spinned the best hit music to dance to - from oldies rock and roll to modern latin hip hop and funk. Also, special guest singers and the band, Son de Rey, played. Benefit was to raise funds for the Johnston High School Vietnam Veterans Memorial Ceremony which was held on May 25th, 2013

TEXAS MONUMENT PARADE ON 3-31-12

Thanks to all the Rams who helped to build a float to honor the Johnston High School students who died in Vietnam.  The float was in the new Tejano Monument parade on Congress Avenue in downtown Austin on Saturday, March 31, 2012.  Our float was one of the few real, traditional floats in the parade.  The majority of the parade crowds on Congress Ave. in Austin were Johnston ex-students who, along with their family and friends gave the "Hook 'Em Rams" sign and yelled "Hooray Johnston High School", "Yay Rams" and "Rams forever" as the Johnston float came by.  What a fabulous site that was to see as we all felt our Ram pride!

 Johnston Legacy Hall

If you plan to be in the Austin area, reserve a visit to see the Johnston Rams Legacy Hall in the school cafeteria.  Also, you can make a reservation to look at all the Johnston yearbooks plus other mementos in the school library.  Just call the Liberal Arts and Science Academy (LASA) in the Johnston campus.

See the Editorial in the Austin American Statesman, Saturdary, 7-9-11 regarding the Johnston name change.  Also, See the Johnston High School article in the Austin American-Statesman, Tuesday, 7-5-11.
