In Memory

Donna Lee Akers* - Class Of 1975

On Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008, our beloved Donna Lee Akers passed away at her home following a long illness. She was 51 years of age. Donna was born on July 20, 1957, the youngest of two daughters born to Mary Virginia Garten Akers and the late Donald Lee Akers. Donna made her career in the hotel industry, working in many hotel chains and traveling throughout the years. She loved the ocean and fishing, and made her home on the Florida coast for many years. When her health began to fail, she returned to Beckley to make her home with her mother, Mary, at Emerald Court, and enjoy the company of her sister, Linda, and her family. Left to cherish her memory is her loving mother, Mary, who took care of her; her devoted sister, Linda Moore and her husband, Elder David Leo Moore, of Beckley; dear nephews, Shawn Gunther and his wife, Kathy, of Crab Orchard, and Chris Gunther of Brazil; special aunts, Wilma and Betty; and lifelong friends, Lilly and Sally. In keeping with her wishes, she has been cremated. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Heart of God Ministries at 1703 South Kanawha Street, with Elder David Leo Moore and host pastor Bishop Fred Sims officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. And so we shall remember “Our Sweet Donna,” funny, always making us laugh, full of life and joy. II Timothy 4:7 – “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith.” And she did, until the very end. You are “Forever In Our Hearts.” Condolences can be e-mailed to the family at melton@wvdsl.net Arrangements by Melton Mortuary, Beckley. [WWHS ’75]
