Reggie Reginald Romeo Rhodes* - Class Of 1971

Reginald (Reggie) Rhodes, 57, of 415 Bostick Ave., Beckley, joined the Kingdom of Heaven on Nov. 4, 2009, at his residence after a one-year battle with Leukemia. He was born in Leslie, W.Va., Feb. 16, 1952, to Mrs. Newassa Creasy Rhodes and the late Mr. Goldie F. Rhodes. He was happily married to the late Sandra Louise Rhodes and they shared a loving union for 40 years. Reginald was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, Marshall University and Beckley College and earned his degree in Elementary Education and Special Education. He had 34 years of service with the Raleigh County Board of Education and taught at Beaver and Daniels Elementary Schools. He was an active member of the Heart of God Ministry Church. He worshipped the Lord as a soloist, in the Men’s Choir, and with the Shabach Praise Team. He served on the Pastor’s Board of Elders and various other church and community organizations and events. He was a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, a two-time nominee for the Teacher of the Year, received an award for being an Outstanding Young Educator by the Jaycees, and several other awards for his commitment to community service. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sandra, on Aug. 20, 2009, and maternal grandmother, Cleo Creasy. Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Ronald (Neika) Lawrence Sr. of Capital Heights, Md.; daughter, Angela (Troy) Roach of Laurel, Md.; mother, Newassa Rhodes of Beckley; three brothers, Freddie Rhodes of Bluefield, W.Va., Goldie Rhodes and Kermit Rhodes (Marie) of Beckley; three sisters, Vanessa Rhodes of Beckley, JoAnn Ross (Mike) of Belleville, Mich., and Marsha Brookins (Michael) of Odenton, Md.; three granddaughters, two grandsons; two aunts; two great-uncles, a great-aunt; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009, at Heart of God Ministries, 1703 S. Kanawha St., Beckley, with Bishop Fred T. Simms officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, at the Ritchie and Johnson Funeral Parlor Chapel, 748 S.
