Sara Katheryn (Sallie) Price* (Burdette) - Class Of 1970

Sara "Sallie" Katheryn Price-Burdette, 48, of Beckley, entered into a new life on Monday, Oct. 9, 2000. Born July 4, 1952, in Beckley, she was the daughter of Halbert D. "Hal" Price II and Lois Gunter Price of Beckley. Sallie spent her childhood on her parents' farm at Oak Grove. She was a 1970 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, and attended Concord College and West Virginia University. She was a resident of Richmond, Va., for a number of years and was employed as a supervisor of Adva Care. She returned to the Oak Grove community in 1994. She was a former owner of Home Alone Critter Care and Food For Thought on Main Street in Beckley. She was a member of United Methodist Temple. She was an avid reader and will be remembered as a great lover of animals. She enjoyed outdoor activities, especially spending time on the Greenbrier River with her husband. She will join her family members who have passed before her: her paternal grandparents, Halbert D. and Golden Price Sr.; her maternal grandfather, Paul Gunter; and several aunts and uncles. She leaves to celebrate fond memories: her husband and best friend, Larry; a brother, Halbert "Bert" Price III and his wife, Jane; her maternal grandmother, Thelma Gunter of Mabscott; her father and mother-in-law, Paul and Jerri Burdette; brothers and sisters-in-laws, Dan, Christy, Rob and Jen; nieces and nephews; Rachel, Derek, Ashley, Brooks, Mary and Allie; stepniece, Jill; great-stepniece, Morgan; aunts and uncles, Mary Bailey, Joyce and Gene Wickline, John Kelly Price, with whom she shared her birthdate, and Ann Price Singer; special childhood friends, Marsha Starr and Kyra Otte; many cousins and extended family members; and by her pets, Charlotte, Drifter, Tess and Annie. A celebration of her life will be 2 p.m. Thursday at her home on Halbert Lane (off Cleveland School Road) in her yard looking outward toward the trees with the Rev. Dan Johnson celebrating and Jon Schwitzerlette offering a ministry in music. Donations of sympathy may be made to the United Methodist Temple Building Fund, 3871 Robert C.
