Ernest Eugene Morris Jr. * - Class Of 1979

Ernest Eugene Morris Jr., 47, of 301 Morris Ave., Beckley, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2008, at Raleigh General Hospital following a long illness. Born Jan. 31, 1961, in Beckley, he was the son of Pauline Marie Baxter Morris of Beckley and the late Ernest Eugene Morris. He was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, was employed as a telemarketer and truck driver and was an Army veteran. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by brothers, Charles P. “Terry” Morris and Lonnie J. Patterson Jr., and sister, Shirley Dorsey. Left to cherish precious memories are very special friend, Letina Carter of Beckley; son, Velarian “Larry” Carter-Morris of Beckley; daughter, Detria Carter-Morris of Beckley; maternal great-grandmother, Essie Baxter of Beckley; brother, Larry (Judy) Patterson of Beckley; sisters, Phyllis (J.B.) Anderson of Beckley, Vicky (Tyrone) Tanks of Highland Springs, Va., Linda Morris and Kimberly Morris, both of Beckley; grandsons, Tijaiy Pankey of Beckley and Isiah Hairston of Cleveland, Ohio; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, at New Hope Baptist Church, 304 Worley Road, with the Rev. Nathaniel Carey, Rev. Abner Wright, Rev. Jerry B. Staples and Rev. Rodney Hill officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. Friends may call one hour before service at the church. Arrangements entrusted to Ritchie & Johnson Funeral Parlor, Beckley.
