Roger Dean Maynor* - Class Of 1970

Roger Dean Maynor Jr., 51, of Grandview, beloved husband, father and son, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2004, at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville, Va., following a short illness. Born Jan. 18, 1953, in Beckley, he was the son of Roger Dean Maynor Sr. and Peggy Meador Maynor of Shady Spring. Mr. Maynor was manager of Special Projects for A.T. Massey for 14 years, a member of St. Mary's United Methodist Church, a 1970 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and a graduate of Bluefield State College with a B.S. degree in mining technology. He was a member of Beckley Masonic Lodge No. 95 AF and AM and the Eagle Scouts No. 139. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, archery and golf. He was an avid NASCAR fan. Mr. Maynor was preceded in death by an infant brother, Byron Lindsey Maynor; an infant sister, Cynthia Jane Maynor; maternal grandparents, Clyde and Orah Meador; and paternal grandparents, Hobart and Alma Maynor. Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Joyce Flower Maynor; a son, Callyn Maynor at home; a daughter, Brittany Maynor of Grundy, Va.; a sister, Tari Maynor of Cary, N.C.; sisters-in-law, Sherry Flower of MacArthur and Michele Cook and husband, William, of Cool Ridge; a brother-in-law, Gary Flower and wife, Cindy, of Lake Wales, Fla.; three nieces; two nephews; five great-nieces; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary's United Methodist Church, 2012 S. Kanawha St., Beckley, with the Rev. Stephen Rector officiating. Burial will follow in Meador Cemetery, Ghent. Graveside rites will be conducted by Beckley Masonic Lodge No. 95 AF and AM. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the church. Pallbearers will be Blaine Eddy, Gary French, Gary Flower, Rusty Hodges, Brandon Flower, William Cook, Michael Lee Meador and Clyde Mack Meador. Relatives and friends will serve as honorary pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Mary's United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, in memory of Mr. Maynor.
