Kevin (Pro) Canterbury* - Class Of 1975

Kevin Lane Canterbury, 49, lived every day as if it was the last day of his life; that day turned out to be Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2007, when he died from complications of lung and bone cancer. Mr. Canterbury was a resident of Maxwell Hill in Beckley for virtually his entire life. Kevin had many good friends through the years who knew him as a fun-loving, highly spirited man who rarely could avoid a good time or resist a road trip, and who would go out of his way for anybody — old friend or new acquaintance — who needed a helping hand. Besides his friends, family and co-workers, his primary loves were his various motorcycles, starting with a minibike when he was 12 years old, and many girlfriends through the years, all of whom had a special place in his heart. A construction worker who worked throughout West Virginia, but mainly in the Ohio River Valley, Kevin was a proud member of Laborers International Union Local 543 in Huntington He is survived by his father, “Sarge” Charles E. “Chuck” Canterbury, and stepmother, Barbara Lynn Canterbury, of Mount Hope; brother, Steven D. Canterbury and his wife, Nancy, of Charleston; aunt, Mary Ruth Bowyer of Maple Fork; uncle, Norton Canterbury and his wife, Mary, of Mount Hope; cousin, the Rev. Ronald Bowyer of Capon Bridge; as well as several other loving extended family members. He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Bowyer Canterbury Brown. The family also especially appreciates Kevin's good friend, Robert Nasby, who gave tirelessly of himself to help Kevin throughout the last several very difficult months. Kevin's last words were an appropriate reflection of his life: “Put out the fire! Call in the dogs! It's over, boys.” He will be cremated. Memorial service will be held in approximately two weeks.
