On Wednesday, May 21, 2008, Darrell Ross Gillespie passed away. He was 55 years of age. Darrell was born Oct. 28, 1952, at Crab Orchard, the youngest of four children born to the late Forrest B. and Freda Carte Gillespie. In addition to his parents, his sister, Alice Williams, also preceded him in death. A graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, Class of 1970, Darrell was a member of Bethel Freewill Baptist Church. A former coal miner and welder, he last worked at Consolidated Cable. Darrell was the dear husband of Delilah Ruth Tolliver Gillespie; the fond brother of David Gillespie and his wife, Tammy, and Kay Pegram and her husband, Michael, all of Beckley; and the son-in-law of Jesse and Carrie Tolliver of Pierpoint. A large extended family also survives. Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Sunday at Melton Mortuary Chapel, Beckley, with the Revs. Bill Calhoun and Scott Lester officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. The family will receive friends noon until time of service.
