Cynthia Ann Goodson* - Class Of 1970

Cynthia Ann Goodson died Wednesday, May 2, 2007, at Thomas Memorial Hospital after a short illness. Born June 28, 1952, she was the daughter of Clarence William Goodson Jr. and Wanda D. Smith. Cynthia graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, Beckley, in 1970 and graduated from West Virginia State College (now West Virginia State University), Institute, in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Work. Cynthia was employed for many years at first Union Carbide, then Dow Chemical Corporation in South Charleston as a Materials Handler and as a Data Entry Clerk. Cynthia was preceded in death by a great-grandmother, Evelyn Tyree of Beckley; maternal grandparents, William Dow Sr. and Johnnie Mae Dow of Dayton, Ohio; paternal grandparents, Clarence William Goodson Sr. and Annie Mae Goodson of Harper Heights; three aunts, Mary Page of Wilmington, Del., Doris Dow of Bronx, N.Y., Carrie Evelyn Dow of Dayton, Ohio; and two uncles, Walter Ernest Dow of Long Island, N.Y., William Dow Jr. of Dayton, Ohio. Left to cherish her memory are her loving mother, Wanda D. Smith of Beckley; brother, Adib Aqeel of Beckley; great-aunt, Geneva Jasper of Beckley; maternal aunt, Gloria Dow of Dayton, Ohio; and numerous cousins. Also left to cherish her memory are special friends, Patricia Canada of Beckley, Martee Jackson of Charleston, Cathy Turner of Deepwater, Loretta Pettway of Charleston, and other special and dear friends too numerous to mention. Cynthia was loved and cherished by all who knew her and she will be greatly missed. Service will be held Monday, May 7, at 1 p.m. at St. Paul Baptist Church, 812 B St., St. Albans, with the Rev. Michael A. Poke Sr. officiating. Friends may call one hour before the service at the church. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley.
