Barbara Frances Davis* - Class Of 1976

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - On Tuesday, October 16, 2012, following a long illness, The Lord sent his angels to Barnes Jewish Hospital to escort his faithful servant, Barbara Frances Davis, 54, of St. Louis, Mo., and formerly of New Orleans, Louisiana and Beckley, W.Va., to her heavenly home. The seventh of eleven children, Barbara was born April 7, 1958, in Beckley, to the late James Neal Davis and Maggie Lee Fisher Davis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, James and Elizabeth Fisher; paternal grandparents, John and Mary Davis, sisters, Maggie Lena Davis and Carolyn Renay Davis Hickman and nephew Jeremiah Jay Moore. Barbara accepted Christ at an early age, and was baptized at Mt. Zion Baptist Church by the late Rev. Nelson Staples Jr. Prior to her illness, Barbara was an active disciple of Central Baptist Church, St. Louis and a past member of the Greater Saint Stephen Baptist Church, New Orleans, Louisiana and Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Beckley. Barbara was a 1976 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. She received a Bachelor of Psychology from West Virginia University. Master of Social Work Degree from Southern University in New Orleans, and was LMSW certified by Louisiana State Board of Social Work Examiners. Barbara was also a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Gamma Omega Chapter. At the time of her death, Barbara was on sick leave from her job as a QMRP, for the Magdala Foundation. She had extensive work history as a Social Worker, Outreach worker, Crisis Counselor, Case Manager, Group Therapist, and Disaster Relief Specialist in New Orleans and St. Louis, and was a volunteer for the American Red Cross. She was known for her quick smile, care and compassion, Barbara was loved by all. She leaves to cherish her memories brothers, Haywood Lee (Diane) of Dover, New Jersey, Ronald Edward Davis of Honolulu, Hawaii, Lt. Col. William C. (Diana) of Warner Robins, Georgia, and James Willie Davis of Beckley; sisters: Loray Jean (Albert) Baker of Beckley, Savannah Davis of St. Louis, Missouri, Mary Moore (William) Beckley, and Theresa Davis Manns of Beckley; uncle, John Fisher of Honolulu, Hawaii; aunt, Sallie Mae (John Walter) Alexander of Philadelphia, PA, Beulah (Grenville) Reid of Trenton, NJ, and Christine (Mrs. Connise) Fisher of Roseboro, NC. She will be missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, community and her church families at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Greater St. Stephens and Central Baptist Church. Funeral services will be 12 noon Saturday, October 20, 2012 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 142 Mool Ave, Beckley, with Rev. Nelson Staples III officiating. Entombment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, Prosperity. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 12 noon Saturday at the church.
