Deborah Denise Jackson* (Matney) - Class Of 1977

Deborah Denise Matney, 50, of Fries died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009, at her home. Funeral service will be held Saturday, Jan. 31, at 2 p.m. at the Bluefield Church of God in Bluefield, W.Va., with the Rev. Danny Scott officiating. Interment will be in Grandview Memory Gardens at Bluefield. She was a retired registered nurse having graduated with an associate degree from Elizabethtown Community College in Kentucky. She was an avid reader and enjoyed photography, crafts, the Internet and shopping. She leaves behind a void that cannot be filled in the lives of all she touched and knew. She was preceded in death by her father, the Rev. Ray Franklin Jackson; and her grandmother, Irene Jeffrey. Survivors include her husband of 30 years, Maj. (Retired) Randel Matney of the home; two daughters, Cassandra Gullion and husband, Jason, of Chilhowie, Amber Ritchey and husband, Michael, of Chesterfield; a son, Steven Matney and wife, Brandy, of Galax; her mother, Shirley Jackson of Bluefield; a brother, Steve Jackson of Tuckerton, N.J.; a sister, Tammy Rutherford and husband, Darnell, of Riner; 15 grandchildren, Sierra, Scott, Alyssa, Franklin, Tyler, Hailey, Vanessa, Jalynn, Michelle, Jacob, Rachel, Haley, Jordan, Darren and Aleigha; and several nieces and nephews, whom she loved very much. Memorial donations may be made to Ronald McDonald House, 2224 Jefferson St. S.E., Roanoke, VA 24014. Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville is in charge of the arrangements. [WWHS Class of 1977]
