Charles H. "Charlie" Johnson* - Class Of 1974

Minister Charlie H. Johnson, 47, of Harper Heights went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, following an extended illness. Born May 24, 1955, at Beckley, he was the son of Fannie Lee Gilbreath and the late Harry Johnson. Mr. Johnson was a member of the Church of God M.P.G. of T., where he served as a minister. He was a 1974 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and attended Beckley College in Beckley and Appalachian Bible College in Bradley. He received a certificate from Hilltop Christian College. He was preceded in death by his father, Harry Johnson; grandparents, Charles and Maymia Johnson and Yancy and Margaret Gilbreath; two sisters, Evonye Harris and his baby sister, Minister Emma Johnson; six aunts; seven uncles and several cousins. Survivors include his mother, Fannie Johnson of Harper Heights; two sisters, Jacquetta Johnson of Harper Heights and Harietta Johnson of Beckley; a brother, Otis Johnson of Columbus, Ohio; a niece, Tracie Johnson of Beckley; three nephews, Kenneth Johnson of Beckley, Otis Davis of Columbus, Ohio, Nichol Johnson of Columbus, Ohio; an aunt, Shirley Fox (Edwin Phoenix) of Boston, Mass.; and a host of relatives and friends. Service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Church of God M.P.G. of T. in Harper Heights with Pastor Ruby Berry officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. Friends may call 7 to 9 p.m. today at the church and one hour before service Saturday. Arrangements by Durgan Funeral Home, Beckley.
