On Monday, Sept. 15, 2008, John Robert Pedro Jr., died in a Beckley hospital of pancreatic cancer. He was 52 years of age. Born on Christmas day in 1955, John was the beloved son of John Robert and Vada Juanita Lilly Pedro of Peters Drive, Beckley. John attended Greenbrier Military School and was a graduate of Alleghany High School in Covington, Va. A graduate of Raleigh County Vocational Technology Center, he was a certified welder with state and federal certificates. John worked on many mining projects. He had been employed for Roberts and Shaffer. A member of Memorial Baptist Church, John had many friends. In his leisure time, he liked to build models, especially airplanes. In addition to his parents, John is the dear brother of Patty Osborne and her husband, Owen, and the fond uncle of Ashley Osborne all of Rural Hall, N.C. Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at the Melton Mortuary Chapel. Dr. Charles Bright, the senior adult pastor of Memorial Baptist Church, will officiate at the service. Burial will follow in the Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley. The family will receive friends 1 p.m. until the time of the service Friday at the funeral home.
