Robert Walker Lucas* - Class Of 1976

Robert Walker Lucas, 43, of Florida Avenue in Beckley, died Monday Sept. 3, 2001 at his home following a six month battle with cancer. Born on Aug. 18, 1958 in Beckley, he was the son of Dorothy Gregory Lucas of Tolbert Street and the late Howard Ray Lucas Sr. Robert spent his childhood in East Beckley. He was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, Class of 1976. He lived for a number of years on Tolbert Street. He was employed by the West Virginia Division of Highways and was of the Christian faith. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Robert Lee and Callie Mae Lucas and his maternal grandparents Henry Walker and Mildred Louise Gregory. Robert will be remembered for his great love of children and his "Happy Go Lucky" attitude on life. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Tammy Abshire Lucas and her children Robby, Will, and Emily Spencer, who considered him a loving stepfather; a sister, Carolyn Lucas DiLorenzo and her children Rebecca, Jennifer and Gregory; a brother Howard Ray Lucas Jr. and his wife Sharon and their children Meredith and David; a great niece Ashley; his father-in-law James Abshire and his wife Linda of Bolt and his mother-in-law Delores Owen and her husband Danny of Lerona, as well as a large extended family and a special friend Terry Ellison of Grandview. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 5 at Melton Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. Don Pfleger officiating. Burial will follow in the Calfee Cemetery at Mt. Tabor. Friends may call from 6 to 9.m. today at the mortuary. Pallbearers will be David Scarborough, Norman Randall, Steve Clay, Bruce Blankenship, Ricky Runyon, Ricky Clark, Joe Adkins, Danny Stover. Honorary pallbearers will be co-workers and supervisors of the WV Division of Highways and Don Pannell and Dempsey Adkins. Melton Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
