Judith Ann "Judy" Pilkington* (Mullens) - Class Of 1971

Judith Ann "Judy" Mullens, 51, of 123 Williams St., Beckley, died Monday, April 4, 2005, at Beckley Appalachian Regional Hospital following a long illness. Born on April 21, 1953, in Beckley, she was the daughter of the late William Thomas Jr. and Ora Stone Pilkington. Judy was a homemaker and spent most of her life in Beckley. She attended Woodrow Wilson High School and West Virginia University in Morgantown. She was a member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church, Beckley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Ray Mullens, on March 1, 2005; her grandparents, William Thomas Sr. and Madge Arlene Wood Pilkington, and Samuel David and Nannie Letha Hopkins Stone; and a nephew, Samuel David Shrader. She is survived by her biological children, Rich Pilkington and sons, Tyler and Aaron, of Waxhaw, N.C., Cheri Prince and husband, Chuck, and daughters, MaKayla and Emilee, of Charlotte, N.C., Timmy Shrader of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Leann Rettell, a first-year medical student at WVSOM and husband, Ryan, of Lewisburg. She is also survived by a brother, Bill Pilkington and wife, Debbie, of Cool Ridge; two sisters, Nancy Shrader and husband, Bub, and Arlena Haydon and husband, Lacy, of Beckley; her nieces, Beth Pilkington of Clifton Heights, Pa., Beckey Groover and husband, Bob, of Cochranton, Pa., Laurie Maiolo and husband, Tony, of Beckley and Alissa Pilkington of Mount Hope; her nephews, Ryan Pilkington of Cool Ridge, Marc Pilkington, a student at Concord University, and Denny Shrader of Beckley; her stepdaughter, Tavyia Rae Mullens Perez of Fort Myers, Fla.; two stepsons, Thomas Ray Mullens II of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and T. Dwight Lafferty, a student at Concord University; and six stepgrandchildren. She will be missed by her best friend, Frances "Tuffy" Forren; special friends, Ralph and Bonnie Allen; and her beloved dog, T.J. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Melton Mortuary Chapel, Beckley. Memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations of sympathy may be made to St. Stephens Episcopal Church, 200 Virginia St., Beckley, WV 25801, in memory of Judy. In honoring Judy's wishes, she will be be cremated and her ashes will be scattered with her husband in the Gulf of Mexico. Arrangements by Melton Mortuary, Beckley.
