Larry Darnell Nicholas* - Class Of 1977

Larry Darnell Nicholas, 49, of Fredericksburg, Va., formerly of Beckley, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, at Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg, Va. Born Dec. 28, 1958, at Raleigh General Hospital, to the late James E. Nicholas and Sarah Ruth Hester Nicholas, Larry attended Woodrow Wilson High School and served in the United States Army, where he received an honorable discharge. He was baptized at an early age in the Baptist faith and knew Christ as his personal Saviour. After leaving Beckley, Larry worked in Ohio, Indiana and Virginia in food services and retail. Larry enjoyed reading, listening to music, watching sports and old movies. Recently, he enjoyed visiting with his granddaughter. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ruth Nicholas; stepfather, Frank “Bro” Marshall; a sister, Donna Gayle Nicholas Shumate; and his “adopted” family, “Buck” and Gwendolyn Keaton of Beckley. Larry leaves to cherish his memories, a son, Cody Manns of Beckley; a granddaughter, Aliaya Manns of Indiana; three brothers, James “Scooter” Nicholas, Richard (Kim) Nicholas of Columbus, Ohio, and Charles (Mike) Nicholas of Beckley; and five sisters, Constance (Toney) McKeever of Beckley, Marilyn Nicholas and Garnetta (Tammy) (Bruce) Taylor of Fredericksburg, Va., with whom he resided, Cheryl (Lynn) Scott of Gambrills, Md., and Kimberly Burks of Columbus, Ohio; an uncle, Clarence (Eunice) Nicholas of Beckley. He also leaves behind a loving host of other relatives, and a special friend, Ms. Lisa Keaton of Beckley. Our dear brother will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Funeral service for Larry will be 12 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008, at Second Baptist Church, 100 F Street, Beckley, with the Rev. Rudolph Poindexter officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial Park, Beckley. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Durgan Funeral Home, Beckley is in charge of the arrangements.
