On Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at his home on Fairview Avenue, our most cherished Jimmie Pat Swift II passed away following a long illness with lung cancer. He was 56 years of age. Born October 28, 1953, Jimmie Pat was the first of two children born to the late Jimmie Pat and Audrey Plummer Swift. His paternal grandparents, John and Carrie Swift, and his maternal grandparents, Albert and Hattie Bailey Plummer, also preceded Jimmie in death. Jimmie spent his childhood on Maxwell Hill. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, Class of 1972, and West Virginia University. He was a paper carrier for Beckley Newspapers for over 20 years. His co-workers at Beckley Newspapers are honored to carry his casket. Jimmie Pat Swift was a very friendly person who never met a stranger. He loved to ride his Harley and was of the Christian faith. Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife, Sandra Wilson Swift; he was the father of three daughters, Megan and Lindsey, who live in Ohio, and Stephanie, who preceded him in death; he was the dear brother of Rebecca Wills and her husband Dwayne of Ellison Ridge; the fond uncle of Holly Jackson and Amber Yost; the sweet grandfather of Morgan and Austin; the special nephew of Carol Plummer; Jimmie was blessed to have a close relationship with his wife’s family; his father-in-law, the Rev. W.W. Lusk who has passed away, and his mother-in-law, Rev. Delpha Jeffries Lusk of Shady Spring; along with Sandra’s children who thought very highly of Jimmie. They are Robert Wilson and his wife Teresa, Jeff Workman and his wife Sherry, Brian Workman and his wife Corey, Eric Honaker and his wife Connie, Kristi Plumley and her husband Ray, and Kevin Honaker and his wife Susan; Jimmie was the doting Pa Paw to Sandra’s seven grandchildren; he is also survived by his loyal canine companion, Alfie. This Saturday, the first of Spring, March 20th, at 1 p.m. we will remember Jimmie’s life with a service at the Melton Mortuary Chapel with the Rev. James Hale officiating. Jimmie will then be laid to rest beside his parents at the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. today, Friday, and one hour prior to the services on Saturday. And so now we must say goodbye to our dear Jimmie Pat. “We loved you but God loves you best.” Condolences may be sent to the family’s guestbook at www.meltonmortuary.com. Arrangements by Melton Mortuary, Beckley.
