On Friday, July 12th, 2013, our most cherished, Jerry Dale Minor passed away at his home in Cabell Heights. He was 61 years of age. The youngest of ten children, Jerry was born on June 30th, 1952, at Beckley. He was the son of the late Charles Baxter and Margaret Helena Lewis Minor. His brothers, Ronnie, David, and John have preceded him in death. The Minor children were raised in the Oak Grove Christian Church. A lifelong resident of Cabell Heights, Jerry was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, Class of 1972. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Jerry was stationed in Germany during his stint in service. He had been employed by Lee Norris as a mechanic. In his leisure time, Jerry enjoyed fishing and playing pool. He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Nathan, Lauren, Lucas and Amber; two grandchildren; his sisters and brothers, Anna Birchfield and her husband, Samuel of Beckley, Marigold Sauer, Reyta Coonts and Frances Moreland, all of Baltimore, MD; Charles B. Minor and his wife, Reba of Rustburg, VA and James Robert “Jim Bob” Minor of Cabell Heights. Several nieces and nephews survive as well. Funeral services will be Thursday, July 18th, at 11 a.m. at the Oak Grove Christian Church. Kelly Gowen will be officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 5 to 9 p.m on Wednesday evening at the Melton Mortuary and one hour prior to the services at the church on Thursday. Jerry will be laid to rest in the church cemetery. Family and friends will be serving as pallbearers.
