Gary Lee Brooks* - Class Of 1980

Gary Lee Brooks, age 53, of Beckley, WV, passed away on Wednesday, December 30, 2015, following a sudden illness.

Born on January 6, 1962, in Bluefield, Virginia, he was the son of the late Herbert Brooks and Ethel Cox Brooks Martin, and was the stepson of John Earl Martin of Beckley.

Gary was employed with AWP as a flagman, and was retired from the Army National Guard with 22 years of service. He had served one tour of duty in Iraq, and had assisted in the Hurricane Katrina cleanup. 

Gary was a member of the Faith Community Church in Beckley. He enjoyed spending time with his twin sons. He loved all animals, and loved taking care of them!

Those survivors left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Penny Altizer Brooks; twin sons, Ethan and Nathan Brooks at home; his mother-in-law, Hazel Altizer of Clear Fork; his sister-in-law, Angela Killebrew and her husband Michael, and their daughter Breanna of Kingsport, Tennessee.

Funeral services will be conducted to Celebrate the life of Gary Brooks at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Thursday, January 7, 2016, at 2 p.m. with Pastor Sam Peterson officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity, WV. 

Friends may visit with the family from noon until service time of Thursday at the funeral home. 

Pallbearers will be his close friends. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Army National Guard Honor Guard.
