Shelva J. Pennington* (Bittinger)

Shelva J. (Pennington) Bittinger, 70, of Beckley, celebrated her birthday with her family, and was called up to celebrate with the Lord that evening on April 21, 2013. She is preceded in death by her father, John T. Duncan and her mother Mary Wallace. She is survived by three sisters, Betty Young, Shirley Moore, and Helen Goodson. She was the mother of three children, Barry Pennington, Prosperity, W.Va., Nick Pennington, Roxboro, N.C., and Johnna Havens, Bland, Va. She was also a grandmother to four grandsons, Nick Pennington, and Joey Pennington, Kaegan Young, and Braxdyn Havens. Earning degrees from Concord College, and WVU, Shelva was a devoted English teacher at Woodrow Wilson High School for 34 years. She was also an adjunct teacher for area colleges. Shelva was an active member of her community and contributed her talents to many organizations. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, GFWC (Woman's Club) of Beckley, Beckley Art Group, United Methodist Women, Sarah?s Circle, Pathfinder?s Sunday School Class, and Raleigh County Association of Retired School Employees. Services will be held Wednesday, April 24 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Blue Ridge Funeral Home. Burial will follow on Thursday, April 25th, at 11 a.m. at Blue Ridge Memorial Garden, Beckley. Officiating will be Dr. Bob Stoddard. Pallbearers will be Barry Pennington, Nick Pennington, Brad Havens, Nick Pennington Jr., Kaegan Young, and Joey Pennington.
