Miss Christine Clay, 72, of Beckley, died Saturday [July 2, 1977] in a Beckley hospital after a long illness. Born in Damron, Raleigh County, she taught at Beckley Junior High School for 40 years, retiring in 1967. A graduate of Marshall University, Miss Clay was a member of Marshall Alumni Assn. and NRTA. Surviving: niece, Mrs. Robert L. Smith Jr. of Charleston; five nephews. Memorial service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in Keyser-Bryant funeral home, Beckley, with the Rev. Fritz Shilling officiating. The family suggests memorials to the Raleigh County library or the Marshall University Alumni Assn. The body has been cremated. [Charleston Daily Mail, July 4, 1977]
