Mary Doris Calfee* (Durrance)

Huntington - Mary Doris Calfee Durrance, 96, of 1901 Washington Blvd., formerly of Beckley, died Saturday in a Huntington care facility following a long illness. Born February 22, 1897 at Crab Orchard, she was the daughter of the late Henry Temple and Nancy Elizabeth Mankin Calfee. Mrs. Durrance was a retired school teacher having taught at Woodrow Wilson High School, Beckley, for 31 years, and was a graduate of Concord College and attended the University of Cincinnati and Columbia University in New York. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Beckley, the Fidelis Sunday School Class of the church, the American Association of University Women, the Daughters of the American Revolution and Order of the White Shrine of Jerusalem. Mrs. Durrance moved to Presbyterian Manor in Huntington in 1990 and had been a lifelong resident of Beckley. She was preceded in death by her husband Leland T. Durrance. Survivors include, a brother Lionel L. Calfee of Beckley; three nephews, Fred O. Helm of Huntington, Price H. Calfee, Jr. of Beckley and Donald Calfee of Southern Pines, N. C.; three nieces, Dorothy C. Davis of Richmond, Va., Gloria C. Martin of Pullman, Washington and Nancy Calfee of Augusta, Ga. Services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Calfee funeral Home with Dr. David Carrico officiating. Burial will follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Beckley. Friends may call one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Robert Thomson, Carroll Simpkins, Carl Callaway, Earl Whitener, and Robert Wood.
