Charles Allen “Charlie” Durrett*

Charles Allen “Charlie” Durrett, 59, formerly of Fayetteville, passed away Monday, August 30, 2010, at Appalachian Regional Hospital, Beckley. Born on June 26, 1951, in Montgomery, he was the son of the late William Thomas “Bill” Durrett and Roberta Pauline Arbaugh Durrett. Mr. Durrett taught physical education at Daniels Elementary from 1977-1989. He taught drivers education and coached girls’ softball at Woodrow Wilson High School from 1989-2008 where he was instrumental in developing the girls’ softball complex. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Robin Basman Durrett of Beckley; daughters, Sarah Durrett of Beckley, and Rebecca Cottle-Makhene and husband, Moe, of Manassas, Va., and their two children, Drew and Eli; son, Paul Cottle and wife, Megan Turnock, of British Columbia, Canada; two brothers, William Thomas “Tom” Durrett and wife, Loretta, of St. Albans, and Gary Evans Durrett and wife, Van, of The Villages, Fla.; two sisters, Elizabeth Ellen “Betsy” Turner and husband, Bruce, of Dayton Beach, Fla., and Roberta Ann “Anne” Carte and husband, Andy, of Fayetteville; nieces and nephews, Stephen Durrett, Mark Durrett, Denise Matthews and Doug Turner; and a host of other family and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 1, 2010, at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home, Fayetteville, with Pastor Jackie Pittman officiating. Burial will follow in Huse Memorial Park, Fayetteville. The family will receive friends one hour before the funeral at the funeral home.
