Nancy Louise Williams* (Hughes)

Nancy Louise Williams Hughes, of 114 Harvey Street, died Saturday, February 27, 1993, at her home following a short illness. Born in Stotesbury, she was the daughter of the late Emmett W. and Dessie Early Williams. Mrs. Williams spent her childhood at Stotesbury, where she was a graduate of Mark Twain High School. She graduated from Marshall University with a teaching degree in English. She was a senior English teacher at Mark Twain, Stoco, Sophia and Woodrow Wilson High Schools. She was a active member of the Beckley Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of the Supper Circle. She held memberships in the Beckley Womans Club, Delta Kappa Gamma sorority, the AARP and the Retired Teachers Association. She was treasurer of the mark Twain Alumni Association, President of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary Post 4469, secretary of the VFW Auxiliary---12th District, and a member of the state Auxiliary of the VFW. She was a member of the American legion Auxiliary and the VABS at the Veterans Administration medical Center in Beckley. She was preceded in death by her husband J. Alfred Hughes. Surviving is a brother, E. W. “Pat” Hughes of 302 Minnesota Ave., Beckley and numerous cousins. Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Melton Mortuary Chapel, with the Rev. John McLean officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may call today from 6 p.m. to 9. p.m. at the Melton Mortuary Chapel, Beckley. Pallbearers include Hubert Wall, Col. Robert Thomson Jr., Stewart Deck, Tracy Hylton, Dr. E. B. Wray and John Shumate. Donations of sympathy may be made to the Beckley Presbyterian Church, 203 S. Kanawha St., Beckley.
