Katherine Bird McDowell* (Ott)

Mrs. Katherine Bird McDowell Ott, 84, of 122 Williams Street, Beckley, died Tuesday, April 6, 1993, in a Beckley Care Center following a long illness. Born August 26, 1908, at Clarksburg, she was the daughter of the late Dr. James E. and Edith Katherine Bird. Mrs. Ott was a retired teacher at Beckley Junior High, with 32 years of service. She was a member and elder of the Beckley Presbyterian Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher and member of the choir. She was a member of the Black Knight Country Club, the Beckley Womans Club and the West Virginia Retired Teachers Association. Mrs. Ott was a lifelong resident of Raleigh County. She received her masters degree from West Virginia University. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ted McDowell, former Editor of the Beckley Post-Herald, and two brothers, James and David Bird. Survivors include her husband, Maxwell Ott; a stepson, Eugene Page Ott of Cary, N. C.; two stepdaughters, Mary Jane Stevenson of Mount Holly, N. C., and Ruth Ann Huddle of Washington, WV; six grandchildren and four-great grandchildren. Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at Beckley Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Edie Gause officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today at the Calfee Funeral Home and at 1 p.m. Friday at the church. Donations of sympathy may be made to the Beckley Presbyterian Church, 203 S. Kanawha Street, Beckley. Pallbearers will be members of the Mens Bible Class of the Beckley Presbyterian Church.
