Carrie Lucas* (Parker)

Carrie Lucas Parker, 90, of 306 Park Ave. Beckley, died Saturday March 27, 1993, in a Beckley hospital, following a long illness. Born July 10, 1902, in Newport, Va., Giles County, she was the daughter of the late George William and Amanda Givens Lucas. Mrs. Parker was a retired school teacher who taught for 36 years. She graduated from Lynchburg College in 1922 with a B. A. degree. She received her masters degree from WVU and did graduate work at the University of Tennessee. She was a life-member of the NEA, a member of WVEA, the Raleigh County Retired Teachers Association, a charter member of the Fayette-Raleigh Branch of the American Association of University Women and was also a current member of the Beckley Branch of the American Association of University Women. Mrs. Parker was a former member of the Fine Arts Department of the Beckley Womans Club, a member of Kappa Delta Pi Sorority, the Judea Shrine No. 13 of Beckley for 25 years. She was Secretary for Raleigh County Chapter of the American Red Cross for 20 years, a member of Friends of the Library and the Raleigh County Historical Society. She had been a resident of Raleigh County since 1926 and was member of the First Christian Church, Beckley where she was a member of the Anchor Class and Circle No. 8. She was preceded in death by an infant son: two brothers, Clinton H. and Luther Lucas and a sister, Lula Lucas Sibold. Survivors include her husband, George M. Parker, a daughter Sara Jane Parker Summers, and husband, Walker L. of Portsmouth, VA: Two nephews, William H. Lucas and wife Frances C. of Blacksburg, VA .and Doak Lucas and wife, Alva J. of Newport, VA: a niece, Nancy W. Sibold of Newport: one great niece: five great nephews: and many cousins. Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Calfee Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Russell F. Smith Jr. officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset memorial Park Mausoleum A. Beckley. Friends may call from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be William Henkle, Eugene Hancock, Tom Prince, John Rogar, David Mullens, and Lloyd Sweeney. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the men’s Bible Class of the First Christian Church, Beckley. Donations of sympathy may be made to the First Christian Church P. O.
