Fred Clifford Roberts*

Fred Clifford Roberts, 85, of Beckley died Sunday, October 23, 1994 in a Beckley hospital following a short illness. Born December 1, 1908, at Hambleton, he was the son of the late Charles A. and Lucille Haggerty Roberts. Mr. Roberts was a retired school teacher having worked for 38 years in Greenbrier and Raleigh counties. He was a member of the Beckley Presbyterian Church for 43 years and was a Sunday School Teacher and Deacon for many years. He was also a U. S. Navy veteran who served in the Pacific theater during World War II from 1943-1945. He was preceded in death by four brothers and a sister. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Jane Curry Roberts: two sons, Bruce E. Roberts of Memphis, Tenn., Fredrick A. Roberts of Sanford, Fla; two daughters, Jane Ann Aronson of Denver, Colo. And Bessie R. Gilmer of Flat Top: two brothers, William L. Roberts of Hazard, Ky. And David L. Roberts of Hambleton: a sister, Alice R. Raese of Davis: nine grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. today at Beckley Presbyterian Church with Rev. Robin Debnam officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. Friends may call one hour prior to the services today at the church.
