Sandy Thacker* (Stewart)

PINEVILLE - Sandy Thacker Stewart, 39, died Monday, July 29, 2002, in a Morgantown hospital following a short illness. Born May 9, 1963, in Mullens, she was the daughter of Arretta M. Leedy Thacker of Pineville and the late Grover C. Thacker Sr. Besides her father, she was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Larry Stewart; and a brother-in-law, Shannon Stewart. Mrs. Stewart was a graduate of Concord College and Marshall University. She was a 1981 Pineville High School graduate where she served as class valedictorian. Mrs. Stewart coached Junior League Softball and was the ADA of Little League Softball. She taught at Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College, Saulsville, and had taught at Woodrow Wilson High School and Beckley-Stratton Junior High. She attended Pineville Presbyterian Church. In addition to her mother, survivors include her husband, Kevin Stewart; her 15-year-old daughter, Amanda "Mandi" Stewart at home; her 5-year-old son, Jacob Stewart at home; eight brothers and sisters, Gladys Sue Cox of Pineville, Judy Elswick and her husband, Jim, of Denton, N.C., Gloria Lester and her husband, Jim, of Pineville, Grover Thacker Jr. and his wife, Becky, of Oceana, Perry Thacker of Pineville, Teresa Thacker of Beckley, Richard Thacker of Oak Hill and Brian Thacker and his wife, Carol, of Pineville; her mother-in-law, Carol Stewart of Pineville; two sisters-in-law, Melinda Lupardus and her husband, Tim, of Pineville and Sunni Stewart of Pineville; a special friend, Peggy Epling of Shady Spring; and several nieces and nephews. Service will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Calfee Funeral Service, Pineville, with the Rev. Gerald Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Gardens, Matheny. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Arrangements by Calfee Funeral Service, Pineville.
