Catherine "Kay" Allen* (Thompson)

Catherine "Kay" Allen Thompson of Beckley died Tuesday, March 9, 2004, in Beckley. She was born Aug. 21, 1929, in Morgantown, the daughter of the late Dr. Howard Bushnell Allen and Charlotte Schermerhorn Allen. Kay attended Morgantown public schools, graduated from West Virginia University and the College of Graduate Studies with an M.A. in Education Administration. She was dedicated to her students as she taught biology at Woodrow Wilson High School for 20 years and at Beckley College. She was an active member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church. Our mother had a passion for her family, her friends, her community and her church. One of her greatest joys was raising awareness of the need and generating support for an auditorium at Woodrow Wilson High School. She was an avid Flying Eagle and WVU Mountaineer fan. Her optimistic outlook extended to volunteering time for helping people prepare their tax returns as well as being secretary and treasurer for the Landmark Home Owners Association.
