Agnes Barnes* (Tucker)

Agnes B. Tucker, of 108 Riley St., Beckley, died 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 23, 1998, in a Beckley hospital following a short illness. Born Aug. 10, 1912, in Adams County, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late James F. and Cora Hafer Barnes. Mrs. Tucker taught 42 years in the Raleigh County school system retiring from Beckley Junior High School. She was a graduate of Marshall University and received her Masters degree from West Virginia University. She was a member of the First Christian Church and had been a resident of Raleigh County since 1932. Survivors include her husband, A.R. "Sam" Tucker; a sister, Bessie Barnes of Clearwater, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews, including: John Barnes of Peterstown, and Steven Pitman of Charleston. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Calfee Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Russell F. Smith Jr. and Dr. David Carrico officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park, Beckley. Friends may call 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home in Beckley. Pallbearers will be Doug Shumate, Felix Shumate, Lloyd Sweeney, Jerome Van Meter, Wayne Tucker, Steven Pitman, John Barnes, and David Goode. Arrangements by Calfee Funeral Home, Beckley.
