Mary Margaret Williams*

BECKLEY - Mary Margaret Williams, 63, of 109 Locust St., Beckley, died at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, 1999, at her home following a long illness. Born April 5, 1936, at Raleigh, she was the daughter of Leona Fitzpatrick Williams of Beckley and the late Ernest R. Williams. Miss Williams was a retired educator in Raleigh County, having been a teacher for over 42 years. She taught at various locations, including schools in Baltimore, Md., and Homestead and Hialeah, Fla. She taught English at Woodrow Wilson High School. Her last employment was as a home-bound teacher for the Raleigh County School System. Miss Williams was a 1954 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High and received her bachelor's in education from Concord College, where she was a 4.0 student. She received her master's degree from Appalachian State and was working on her doctorate in sciences. She was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Beckley, the Retired Teachers Association and the AARP. She was an officer in the Yufon Group, where she served as the representative of Raleigh County, while traveling to various parts of the United States and England. Surviving are her sister, Marian W. Canaday, of Beckley; a brother, Ralph Emerson Williams and his wife, Crissie, of Sterling Heights, Mich.; a niece, Marie Williams; and a nephew, Ralph Ernest Williams. Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel with the Rev. Father Pericles Malacaman officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home, where a Christian prayer service will be conducted at 8 p.m. by the Rev. Mr. Don Wise. Pallbearers will be Dwight and Jason Dials, Larry Rogar, Jackie Mays, Doug Stacker and Louis Gall. Arrangements by Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, Beckley.
