On Tuesday, December 29, 2020 while at Frye Regional Medical Center, Hickory, NC another Angel gained its wings as Dennis Lee Akers, 61, of Granite Falls, NC went home to be with the Lord.

Born January 11, 1959 in Raleigh County, West Virginia, Dennis was the son of Jack Lee Akers and Esther Israel Akers.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife Debbie Lyons Akers (NC); his daughter Misty Akers (NC) and her fiancé Travis Delozier (NC); grandchildren include, Brayden Akers (NC), Colson Delozier (NC), Camryn and Aubrey Lyons (WV); additional survivors include Zachary Akers (SC), Gregory Lyons (WV), Karen Martin (SC), Connie Highlander (NC); along with numerous nieces and nephews; and in-laws, Larry & Delna Lyons (WV), and Jeff Lyons (KS).

Dennis had a kind heart and a love for watching Nascar, riding his Harley, and most importantly spending time with his grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2021, at 1:00 p.m., at Bass-Smith Granite Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Chris Simmons officiating.

At a later date, there will be another Celebration of Life Service that will be held in his hometown of Beckley, West Virginia.
