Work history: Worked in corporate america for ten years from 1964 to 1974 during which time I took numerous business and management courses.
During those years I managed multiple Data Processing and Operations Divisions. After taking a year off, in 1975 we moved to Red Bluff, Ca. to an 120 acre ranch and for a city gal (San Francisco) this was quite an experience, growing & canning food, killing chickens and my crowning achievement was skinning a pig...yep, glad that is over. In 1981 when the kids went off to college we moved 30 mi. north to Redding where we still reside. During the past 35 years we have owned and operated several businesses in construction, land development, marketing, communications and a partnership in a national co-operative in communications. In 2002 we sold our communication company and in 2006 we sold our interest in the last of the businesses, the nat'l
communications co. It has been quite a ride and I guess there were a few achievements worth noting. In 1990 our communications co. was awarded Redding Business of the Year and in 1992 I was chosen as Redding Business Woman of the Year. As you can imagine, we were very active in the community and the community kindly recognized our efforts. Lastly, during 16 of the years we were in the communications business we had an affiliation with Pacific Bell and marketed their products along with our own services and products. We were proud to be one of the top 20 producing businesses in the State of California for them each of those years being annually recognized for that achievement. Thankfully, the end.

School Story:

Carlmont was a bit of a character building experience in a couple of ways. First, I learned tenacity and perserverence when I ran for Pom Pom 3 times and lost. Second, I learned flexibility considering I was a Commercial Art major who ended up in business with many, many, many business endeavors. I did use my CA major doing some of the graphics in our businesses so I guess it wasn't a complete waste. Louis Frangione would be so dissappointed if I squandered all his efforts to mold me. And the coup de grace is my experience with a great teacher, Ms. Jolly Hospers who with extrodinary skill managed to "humble", as she stated "one of the most obstinate students she had ever encountered", me, of course and something my French teacher Ms. Henderson never managed. After Ms. Hospers finally broke and re-trained me, I was the only student she invited to her wedding, I guess she believed I learned the lesson and gratefully, she was right.

Let me see, what else rings a bell? Of course, the day we stuffed 13 people in my folks old '49 Cad. capone wagon and headed to Foster Freeze for lunch. The cop who stopped me counted in amazement as he directed the kids stuffed everywhere, including the guys in the trunk, to get out. Everybody but me had a good laugh and hopped numerous rides to Foster Freeze while I "with humility" (lesson learned above) listened to his tirade on my irresponsibility, which unfortunately my folks and the judge who suspended my license agreed. Such happy memories! Remember, I was a CA not English
major, so you smarties...be nice.

Happy Birthday...I think of Immaculate Heart, you and your mom often. We could sure use more teachers like your mom. Sounds like you followed in her footsteps. Good for you!

Happy Birthday Gini...I think of both you and your mom with fond memories. You know those password questions often asked on sites, well some of them ask for a favorite teacher and guess who I always say, yep, Mrs. Groom.

Sounds like life has treated you well and I am truly glad. I also have been fortunate. I had a great husband (gone now 10 + years), two children (girl and boy), five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Fortunately my daughter her three kids and six grandchildren live here in Redding so my life is filled with family. My son, his two children (boy and girl) and his two grandchildren live in the Phoenix area but we stay in touch often.

Will you be going to the class reunion in October? I hope so, I would love to chat.

Take care and celebrate your birthday with "gusto"!

Ginny, I have thought of you often over these many years. Immaculate Heart...oh my seems like another life. Your mom was one of my all time favorite teachers. I have always wondered why you didn't continue at Notre Dame? Looks like life has been good to you and I am always happy to hear good news. My life has also been a blessing with two kids, 5 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren for all I am truly grateful. Maybe we can see each other at the next reunion (if they have one).

I have been out of town for a couple of weeks and even though her passing was expected it is heart wrenching to hear.

She took me aside at the Reunion and just wanted to chat about the difficulties she was facing but because she didn't want the event to be a downer so she asked me to call her when I got home...I did, and we talked for better than an hour (even thought it was difficult for her to talk).  She was truly some "womenl", smart, accomplished, tough and ready to meet the challenges that were to follow.  Some people stand above the rest and Sally was one of those exceptional people.

Now, she can soar "again".

The Family
Dec 30, 2014 at 2:18 PM

Hi Gerrine,

I hope you Christmas was merry and blessed and you have a joyous New Year.
As for me and mine, I had 18 of my family at my place the week of Christmas and had a truly wonderful and exhausting time. I will only have 12 for the New Year...seems like a breeze. This last year brought me great-grandchild #7, wow, even I can't believe it.

I wanted to ask you, how did you access our classes site? I would really like to access the '58 site, I knew so many of those folks and would like to catch up. Any info would be helpful.

Thanks,

Sharon
