Merlyn Jon Stai ,73, of Bemidji, MN died Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family. A memorial visitation will be 5 - 6:30 pm on Monday, May 11th at Cease Family Funeral Home in Bemidji with a prayer service at 6:30 pm with Father Don Braukmann officiating. A private interment will be at the Holy Cross Cemetery.

Merlyn was born January 25, 1942 in Bemidji, MN, the son of Oscar and Martha (Koppang) Stai. He was raised and educated in Bemidji, graduating from Bemidji High School in 1960. He graduated from Bemidji State College with a business degree. He was a teller for Northern National Bank in Bemidji from 1961-62, where he met and married Judy May Rice on June 15, 1963 in Bemidji. It was in selling advertising that Merlyn found his true calling, beginning his career on a bet. He had an innate gift for being able to give his clients the very best value in whatever medium he was working in. He worked for the Grand Forks Herald from 1964- 66 and 1970-74, Cariveau Advertising in Grand Forks from 1975- 76, and Ingstad Broadcasting in Minot from 1976 - 80. The Bemidji Daily Pioneer is where Merlyn's working home was. He started at age 10 as a newspaper carrier, in high school he worked in the mail and press rooms, and from 1980 was in advertising management and sales, retiring in 2007. 

Merlyn was a member of the Bemidji Jaycees, Elk's Lodge, #1052, Moose Lodge, Eagles Aerie # 351 and Ducks Unlimited all of Bemidji. Besides being with his family, he loved reading books, telling a good story, hunting and fishing, and traveling. Merlyn and Judy enjoyed numerous cruises to the Caribbean and Europe and several trips to their favorite place on earth, Maui

Class of 1960 reunion

Plans have been made for classmates who want to get together on Friday, July 17th.  The large, enclosed pavillion at Diamond Point Park has been reserved all day Friday from 11:00am until 8:00pm.  There are also some tables reserved at The Eagle's Club for anyone who wants to meet there during the All School reunion weekend.  laugh
