Bennington, VT - Doris A. Bigart-Lemieux, age 61, a resident of Coleville Road in Bennington, died on Monday morning, January 15, 2018 following a long courageous battle against ALS, Lou Gehrig's Disease.

Doris was born in Bennington on December 3, 1956 and was the daughter of the late Ezekiel Cross and the former Mary Lou (Reed) Cross who survives. She received her education in local schools and had attended Cosmetology School also. Doris married Todd Bigart on July 16, 1983. He predeceased her. She later married Michael Lemieux in Bennington on December 12, 2009. He survives.

Doris ran her own property management company for many years, and had also operated the River Street Variety Store in Bennington. In early years, she had worked at the Green Mountain Racetrack.

Doris was a member of the Elks Club, the VFW and the Eagles Club. She enjoyed cooking, riding her motorcycle, her snowmobile, and her four wheeler. Doris was also a hunter, and in 2006, she was successful in shooting a moose. But her favorite pastime was spending time with her family.

Survivors besides her husband include; one daughter, Christy Bigart and her companion Steven Gore of Bennington. Her step-son Carson Lemieux of Boston, MA. Two grandchildren whom she adored and cherished; Zava Ann Gore and Zaric Todd Gore, both of Bennington. She leaves her mother, Mary Lou Cross of Shaftsbury, VT, her brother Peter Cross of Shaftsbury and her sister Kimberly Bessette of Bennington, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Doris is predeceased by her first husband, Todd Bigart, one brother Alan Cross, and a granddaughter Zandri Doris Mary Gore.

SERVICES: Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at the Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St. Bennington at 12:30 PM. Interment will follow in the family lot in Center Shaftsbury Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00AM until the time of the service.
