Gary passed away quietly on Tuesday evening, September 7, 2010. We are planning an event in California on Nov 18th at the Poppy Ridge Golf Club north of Concord. If you are in the area, please stop by.This will be a Golf event, however you do not need to play golf as we will have the ceremony prior to the Golf outing.

Donations, if you would like, can be made to the  Salvation Army-"Adult Recovery Center" in Gary's name as this is what he would have wanted.

Gary Sterling, 67, formerly of Berea, died Sept. 7 in Tucson, Ariz.

He was a 1960 graduate of Berea High School and lived in Berea until he joined the U.S. Navy in 1962.Mr. Sterling had worked in Oakland, Cal. for TAP-Air Portugal until he moved to Concord, Cal. to become vice president of sales for World Airways. He was director of tourism for the Oakland Convention and Visitors Bureau from 1988-1991, and executive director of Napa Valley Convention and Visitor Bureau from 1991-1995. He opened his own tourism company, Sterling Marketing Systems, in 1995. He retired in 2008 and moved to Tucson, Ariz.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Judy; sons, Brian and Randy; two granddaughters, Kathryn and Brennah; a brother, Terry, of Lakeside, Cal.; and sister, Judy Sterling Leckie, of Overland Park, Kan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Dorothy Sterling.

A memorial service will be held Nov. 11 at Poppy Ridge Golf Course in Livermore, Cal.

Plans are under way for a memorial service in Berea in April or there about.

The family suggests donations to the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center.

What a loss to our class. Gary was so much fun to be with. He will be remembered as one of the good guys.
