In Loving Memory

Dale Lange

Dale Lange

Dale Arthur Lange, a cherished member of the Berea community, passed away on November 21, 2023. Dale was a true son of Berea, having been born on September 24, 1942 to the late Loretta Selma Traffis Lange and Charles George Lange as the third generation of the Lange family in this close-knit community. His formative years were spent on his grandmother's farm, and Dale developed a strong work ethic and a love for the land that would stay with him throughout his life, as evidenced by the meticulous care and hard work he put into his own yard and garden every single year.

He pursued higher education at The Ohio State University, later completing his studies at Baldwin Wallace College. He worked at the U.S. Postal Service and Schneider Drugstore during his last two years in college and graduated with 2 young children in tow.

Dale's professional journey led him to American Greetings, where he dedicated 34 years of his life. Rising through the ranks, he reached the position of Director of Financial Planning which he held for many years. His contributions to the company were marked by diligence and forward planning, and he implemented similar strategies in his personal life as well. He also loved the social aspects of a large company, joining the company bowling league, golf league and fishing on Lake Erie with friends from work.

Dale's impact extended beyond his professional and family life, as he was an integral part of the Berea community. His roots ran deep, and he took pride in contributing to the growth and well-being of the place he called home. He served on the St. Mary’s Finance Committee for numerous years, and was elected 3 times to the Berea City Council as Councilman-at-Large, serving the larger community for 12 years. He absolutely loved running around town and talking to constituents about what their needs were for the city and how he could help. His license plates were legendary in this small community: “Ask Dale”.

In 1963, Dale married the love of his life, Cheryl Cloudt, and together they celebrated an incredible 60 years of marriage. Their union was blessed with three wonderful children: daughters Darcy and Michele Hughes (Dave), and son Daryl (Kiley). He was always proud to brag about his 5 grandchildren, Kendall Reeves (James), Bennett Hughes (Brooke), Clayton Hughes, Merrick Lange and Lawson Lange. He is also survived by numerous cousins. Dale always had a soft spot for spoiling his pets, and will be missed by his beloved dog, Chase, and cats, Fuji and Meiko.

A Funeral Mass to celebrate Dale's life will be held on Friday, December 1st at 10 am at St. Mary’s Church , 250 Kraft Street, Berea, OH 44017 (meet at church Friday Morning). There will be a Celebration of Life, Thursday, November 30 at Baker-Osinski-Kensinger Funeral Home, 206 Front Street, Berea, Ohio, 44017 from 2 pm - 4 pm and 7 pm - 9 pm.

For those desiring, donations may be made in Dale’s name to St. Mary’s Church (250 Kraft Street, Berea, OH 44017) or a charity of your choice as a tribute to Dale's compassionate and giving nature.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.

I lost site of Dale, living in San Antonio, but I ran into him one year, while visiting my home. Had not change. Still a great guy. We exchanged memories. So glad I saw him.
